I tried in Virginia and I tried in Maryland but today... I finally had some fun behind the wheel at the White Trash Airport Drags. About 40 of us met at a friends house for some bench racing and then went to a local airport for eliminations. One of the guys keeps his plane there so we have a "in". We broke the group into 2 classes one for 13.50 and slower and one for the faster cars. Basicly if you lost you went to the parking lot and if you won you got back in line.
I put some sticky tires on the Bee and put the polys in the trunk for ballast. I sure doesn't help ,they still just burn. The first pass I raced a 71 Mach 1 and he had me until I got into third gear then the Bee hooked up and I passed right by him.
On the next pass I raced a lift off hood Bee (A car that molded me and Dan when we were stupid kids) I wanted a piece of that Bee! We left and again it took me until third gear for me to catch him. He was a old street racer so I knew he knew how to handle his wheel. It was close but the Bee ran him down.
On my third pass I had to run Dans Coronet and I knew I was in trouble. There was only three cars left. Over the years I've been in,driven, street raced and worked on Dans Coronet just like it was my own so I knew exactly what to expect. Dans car always hooks hard even on the street. I didn't think there was going to be enough real estate for me to run him down so I had to really push it. He left on me and I was spinning hard through first and second and when I pushed third it hooked and went sideways so I got out of it. I knew I couldn't catch him anyway.
Dan had to race Bills T/A next and it was tight but Dan got him. So Dan was the king of the White Trash Drags! Just goes to show on the street a 11 second car can beat a 10 second car. What a great time, just a good bunch of guys, nobody got hurt, nobody blew up it was AWESOME. After the race we all went back to Toms house for more grub and suds.

Re: I tried in Virginia and I tried in Maryland but today... YEP,
Back in the day Bill's T/A made a lasting impession on me and Dennis has this Bee that just won't quit. Back in the early 90s these two cars looked like restored cars with the exception of headers and wheels and they both ran mid elevens and they are true street cars. These two cars might be the reason for the way I like my cars.
Re: I tried in Virginia and I tried in Maryland but today... No Andy,That was video from last year. When this years video is ready I'll post it. It was alot of fun
Re: I tried in Virginia and I tried in Maryland but today... This track is a blast only 20 miles from my house - two strips of blacktop through a corn field
Usually sneak over after lunch on Sundays.. therell be three or four cars waiting to see if anyone wants to race .
a couple telephone calls and theres twenty cars racing old school style ... The track is horrible , but its fun !
Re: I tried in Virginia and I tried in Maryland but today... I Love the pics sogtx ! That white 67 Coronet is awesome ! Do you happen to know anything about that car? (engine/trans combo)
Re: I tried in Virginia and I tried in Maryland but today... Man those are some old pics , There are no current ones
But most of the cars were local ...
and within a couple minutes from my house
We have dragged most of them out of the fields
and barns , But thats what makes my life interesting , Im gonna die by getting shot peeking into some of these old barns around me ...
