Tires

OK, what are you guy`s thinking here? Rest assured we are gonna clarify this rule. At what point does the tire become "non-stock appearing".

20 minutes ago i snapped picture`s of both my tires, at 1st glance they looked totally bald, i took cleaner and wiped them off and at least one of them looked "not to bad" in my opinion.

Before some of you guy`s get crazy and say something about the ET`s we run, keep in mind these tires are now about 4 years old. Last year they had WAY more thread than this, 7 races ago i still ran 10.50`s with-out the bald tires. This *is not* gonna be a total game changer either way you slice it, like some people think.

In the Mopar Enthusist article on my RR, there`s a picture of my tire in there, still dirty and you can see threads all the way across the tire and that picture was taken this year.

I turned the tire 180 degrees:

Here`s the drivers side, Either way this tires is OFF the car this year. I have some new tires i`ve been nursing. emoticon:

Re: Tires

I vote for a minimum of 4 visible treads showing, all the way around the tire. When a part of the 4th tread disapears, anywhere on the circumference, the tire should be retired. The object being to keep it looking like a stock tire, not a slick Joel

Re: Tires

There must be some visible signs of grooves at the beginning of a race.

Re: Tires

At the beginning of an event the tire should be able to pass a DOT safety check (Even Depth across the tread) . By the end of the event it will still have an acceptable amount of tread that doesn't look like a "slick" and still be safe enough to race with.

I completely understand what you are saying. But who's DOT standards? Pa DOT standards are 2 consecutive treads at a min. of 2/32 thick. Basically the old school cheater slick with 2 tread grooves on either side of the tire, is Pa state insp. legal as long as it is no less than 2/32 deep.

Re: Tires

Dave or everyone, what do you feel has the best hook, a somewhat worn tire, or a bald tire?

Re: Tires

Well.... My car has been hooking like crazy for the past 2 1/2 years. Hooking great (1.6 60's) well before the tires were even close to being bald. When I broke Nelsons record, that was before the bald tire craze. Even with the bald tires I haven't broke the 1.6 barrier on the 60ft's. So they start hooking well, well before they go bald.

Re: Tires

When you leave the track you are thinking they are toast. But, when you get home and look closer you think there is still some fun left.
