GMT "Evil Twin" Review

Meet Your "Evil Twin" a review of GMT's US release of their second helping of Post Punk Metal

Crimeny! I certainly didn't expect this, after their debut "Bitter and Twisted" GMT return with a classic piece of work that takes things a huge step further with a brighter sound, better songs and better everything... without losing their gigantic edge! It's an ear shattering album full of trademark catchy guitar mastery and spine chilling bass lines atop a thundering beat, added with what I consider Bernie Torme's best vocal performance of his career.

The former Irish axeman and bass player of "Gillan" and too many other projects to mention, Bernie Torme and John McCoy, along with the maniacal drummer Robin Guy deliver a solid follow up the their first album.
They just get better as far as I'm concerned, that's all there is to it.

We get served up with a frenzy from Bernie and special guest Dee Snider of "Twisted Sister" and formerly in "Desperado" with Bernie. This track is a great way to open things and get the ears rattled. I like the punk/rockabilly mixture. It's probably the most accessible track on the album, but it's only the beginning of the ride.

"Bullet In The Brain" just takes right off and the brain becomes comfortably numb from the assault. Bernie's vocals start to really shine here by equalling the catchiness of his guitar better than ever. Solid rhythm keeping it altogether for a fine track.

"Evil Twin" is an oustanding song, a "GMT" classic, another accessible number with excellent vocals. A very impressive song that I can't get out of my head. No mistaking former "Gillan" keyboard player "Colin Towns" here.
Things get a bit brasher for a minute with "You Can't Hold Me" talk about "Bitter and Twisted" a gut wrencher. Oustanding work from Robin Guy here.

The pace continues with "One Of These Days" with more excellent purcussion and tastey blues guitar licks, the trademark stuff that Bernie knows we like.
Then we have "Jonny Sitar" and it's an amazing song indeed. With tabla from "Kuljit Bharma" and keys again from "Colin Towns" we have another epic "GMT" track. One of the best songs on the album, a standout for sure.
Things keep going strong with "Holy Roller" and "Wheel Of Fortune" two more great numbers to take the listener into "Perfumed Garden" which to me takes the proverbial cake! A large package of dynamite with a huge impact on the ear drums, a brutally deafening number with the kind of playing from him that I beg for, and another vocally impressive perfmormance.

Then "The Humours" of Mr McCoy" wraps things up by saying it all, really. The character that oozes from this now well oiled machine is massively infectious and yet they not only rock intensely, they write great songs and play like serious monsters, and that's something we've been missing in rock music for a long time. It comes from the super hard work they do to run their business and keep in touch with the fans. The support is returned ten fold as it's given. Great backing from "Cadiz" and everyone behind the scenes. This time we have even better artwork and liner notes with lyrics, and that's yet another comfort afforded by the tremendous support of the fans, so it's a nice return favor to us all, and nice to see my friends "Chris Redial" and "Eclipse" mentioned in the "eternally owe'd dpt." Good one mates!

All in all a killer album that easily seals the future of "GMT"
Please support this release and "Bitter and Twisted" together they're worth twice the price, as they're almost too good to be true.
GMT's identity is well defined on this album and there is no mistaking it, they've arrived!

Hey nice review Larry,

I sort of lost track of Torme and McCoy after their stint with Gillan way back when...

It's nice to see that their still churning out some nice hard rock.

That McCoy is a "Bass Player's Bass Player", isn't he? I have a Gillan DVD that someone sent to me, and he really has some stage presence. Quite a one-man PowerHouse—Lol!

This GMT sounds like a fresh Album well worth checking out — Cheers!
