Re: Welcome to a new DXing group and Freebander Forum
Thanks yamanx1
I am in the process of setting up my shack and have buried a galvenised steel post 3' into the ground to mount a (15'-20') scaffold pole to and then from that I intend to attach a silver rod. This shack will be all about listening for a while so I can learn the ropes (language etc). I have a Kenwood TS-50 so I will be using the USB/LSB and CB frequencies also FM&AM. My first question is am I using the best antenna for this system or could you advise me on a better one that covers my needs. Any advice is very much appreciated. Mark

Re: Welcome to a new DXing group and Freebander Forum
Yes a better antenna is a bigger one. No compromise on this really. I suggest a Sirio 827, but I have little experience with any verticals Great radio btw
Use nylon guy lines as well btw for your scaffold mast, good luck with it all, quiet on 11m atm as we're not experiencing any propagation, you should make ground wave contact though

Re: Welcome to a new DXing group and Freebander Forum
Thanks for that. As it happens there is one on ebay in Birmingham with a free 20' mast I have also found 30m of the guy line you refered to also on ebay...what would be the best way to attach it to the mast?

Re: Welcome to a new DXing group and Freebander Forum
Hi, my name is Nigel.. I started on CB radio when my uncle bought back a cb from the states in his mobile home i was hooked immediately. Just got back into it after being off for a few years. I am so sad that it has now fallen from grace and is just a free for all to swear and play music and talk all the time on the calling channel. I have just bought a Ranger 2950dx but i have not got a clue on how to use it. I bought it because it was offered to me by a guy who needed to move house due to divorce and he couldn't bring it with him. It is in beautiful clean condition. I want to use it but i want to listen first. but i will want to use it properly eventually so i hope it's ok to become a member and ask for advice now and again.
