why would anyone bid nearly £400 on a ranger homebase cb, when you can get an icom 706mk 2g and a 400watt linear for the same money??? strange old place ebay!

As we know, he could have got a full coverage 100 watt HF rig for a lot less than that.
Must be a collector, as no-one else would have a valid reason to pay that. Even a collector would have to be pretty fanatical...

I have to say that is pretty expensive CB radio.
However, these guys that are paying this money might end up as FB members so, welcome if they do, and hopefully learn about current values.
I wouldn't feel comfortable about knocking anyone who does this as, its entirely likely the value of radios has been foregotten and it maybe thats how they remember things?
We've all been bitten at some stage, me more than most if I'm honest, so just a thought for those returning to the hobby or new recruits who know no different

A very balanced opinion there Dave, at the end of it all it's their choice what they are willing to pay for something.
I have paid rather a lot of money in the past for things (not radio related) that others would consider of no value.
