BIG antenna tuner

I got this balanced wire antenna tuner recently, it's from an operator who died, it has been home made but done very professionally, it's bigger than my transceiver at 12 by 15 inches and weighs nearly as much.

I don't know what power it is rated for but it must be a lot, it's like new inside and I will be trying it out soon on my doublet.

hi patrick, that matcher looks really tidy, it looks like it should take a bit of power.

what is the gap between the vanes on the variable capacitor ?

Re: BIG antenna tuner

Hi Marc, the gap is 3mm on that and there is 49 turns of coax on a 3inch former. It tunes all bands including the top band even though my doublet is short for that one. Definately no arching on this ATU either, my KW107 arcs a bit and is very fiddly to tune on 40m.

3mm thats a good gap, the capacitor should take a good few hundred watts, its hard to say how much the matcher would take though due to the other componants and the antenna and band your matching.

crank up the amp and give it a go.
