Re: anyone still active on EC??
Yes Tony still very active on EC, use EC almost every day!! for at least a short while, mostly 45m as although I can use 86m I cause too much interference
There can be some good nets on EC, but you will need either a resonant antenna or an ATU, even with an ATU your aerial needs to be something a bit better than a CB aerial. A simple wire antenna, that is cheap and very easy to install should do the trick, I cant remember what aerial you use? But if its similar to Paddy's then EC should be easily workable.
I'll set up some schedules when I get back from my hols in a couple of weeks, see if you can hear us, and maybe with an ATU join in

Re: anyone still active on EC??
i can hear loads on my V in the loft, need to trawl the net for ideas on wire antennas with very small gardens.

Re: anyone still active on EC??
Thats good, Just ordered an MFJ 945 ATU,
I use Inverted V in loft and if I do late night TXing I should be OK?
If I go up in the hills will ATU tune the silver Rod ?
What would average RF power be on EC? and will my call sign be 26ECFB147 ?
lots of questions I know but my memory is not good for anything before last week LOL

Re: anyone still active on EC??
Only really need low power for EC, but I have been known to errrmmm use a lot
I lose the 26 from my call sign you could use ECFB147, or just FB147, I use FB1
It will tune your silver rod, but it doesnt mean you'll get out very well using it, but worth a try I have copied people using Silver rods, even mobile antennas

Re: anyone still active on EC??
all the atu does is fool the radio into thinking it's transmiting in a 50 ohm resataint ariel???
so your pep into ariel mite be 10w but your tx out of antenna ie radiating power 2 watts ??
got a nose bleed now

Re: anyone still active on EC??
great info guys as usual, Im actually waiting for 8am so I can go get my ATU from P.O. as they tried to deliver friday!!
decided to buy bits to make a G5RV wire. the space in hills will allow me to tie it in an Inverted "V". still good for 11m aswell then
cheers Tony C

Re: anyone still active on EC??
I use my 108FB152 call sign quite regular and have the radio on most days. Very rarely do i hear any one from England or wales on 555??? But i have dx italy and a few in Scotland. I pick up North America, some times British Columbia. I currently use an Alinco dx77 and a silver rod. I suspect that the old rod just isnt right for the job? I have been window shopping and looking at a Siro 4 element beam. Would this increase the RX i get?
Cheers Rob.

Re: anyone still active on EC??
hi rob, the 4 element beam would deffo be better for DX on 555. wouldnt be as good as the rod for local chit chat but deffo better for DX. Ive spoke to scotland a couple of times in the past two months so we may be able to hook up sometime in the future(555). As for EC i dont transmit down their as i'm just using the 11m V in the loft so just listen. I dont have much room outside for a long wire antenna but will sort something out sooner or later(find a cheap atu first).
