Burner confusion

I have a Euro CB EA150P amplifier and it works in a weird way. Not used it in a long time but i remember when i did use it I could not understand why every time i keyed up on SSB there was a 2 second delay before the amplifier stopped sending my signal. when sound returned to my rig the other radio op would already be talking which meant i missed a lot of what they were saying. When used on am/fm i had to switch the control on the front of the burner to the correct mode and when i transmitted it was fine no delay detected. So anyway my question is why? how is ti working and why is there so much of a delay should i replace it in the hope that mine is faulty.

Hi
A lot of folk using linears (kl203 etc) use them with the mode switch in the am/fm position
while using ssb to cut down on the pause on return to rx with no ill effects to
the linear or radio.

Alan is right there is no difference between using AM or SSB setting on the amp and if it solves the problem then use it on the AM setting. All the AM/SSB switch does is switch in a delay circuit, so the relays don't chatter away inbetween words while talking on SSB. I used to have exactly the same problem on my B300P. If your handy with a soldering iron you could change out the cap in the delay circuit for a different value to reduce the delay time, or the easy way is just to use it on the AM setting as long as you don't leave too much of a gap between your words while talking.

i have found that sometimes diferent linears have diferent delays as normal. i had a cte speedy that was a bit slow on the release. also depends if the person your talkin to keys up straight away as you finish, my b300p has a longer delay than i like but you get used to it emoticon

Re: Burner confusion

The ideal solution is to place a connector somewhere, wired across the relay switching transistor, and use a relay in the rig (operated by the PTT) to switch the amp via a lead connecting the two.

No delays, perfeck! Amp on when you key up, amp off when you un-key.

I know that not everybody has the confidence or knowledge to do this mod, but if you can, it's well worth it!
