had this radio for about a year now (all be 4months in it's box)
its basically a mp1000 without the daul vfo,rx good audio good a little quite on fm.
tuner works like a dream peps at 110 watts
dsp not to mechcanial so sounds human even better with he sp5 speaker,no dangly wires plugs into the mains
9 out of 10 for me.

had two 990's both worked well, really well built radio, but they suffer hiss noise coming out of the speaker, this clears up if you switch on the scaf filter....problem is the pin diodes.

I used the 990 for a few years, I have to say it was an absolute dream. The tuner would tune anything I threw at it, RX was fantastic, no problems with any hiss for me. Never had a bad audio report from anyone while using that radio. Like has been said it is the same as a FT-1000 but without some of the extra bells and whistles, same tuner, same PSU and 90% of the same internals.

Only problem is Yaesu don't support the radio any more so if any faults did develop it would be extremely hard to find replacement parts. 10 out of 10 for me though, fantastic radio.
