run lots of 148's back in the day a g4 friend of mine did a brilliant audio mod & filter mod always got brilliant audio/signal reports mind you did run a zetargi 300p & was always /mobile up a mountain,in the camper van.

Used to use one of these in the 80`s static mobile up the hills with a 100watt amp and a DV27 on the roof, if we could hear them, we could work them, was a brilliant performer. Not owned one myself but used often with my mate.

My first SSB rig, cant really remember too much about it. I worked half the planet with one of these from home. I had a PDL2 antenna, a Cobra, Shure desk mic and a Bremi linear amplifier.
What a set up! 
I was soooo excited when I got it home and out the box and kept it for years, only to be replaced with a Yaesu, badged as Sommerkamp, HF set.
Cant really reveiw it as it was more than 25 years ago! But they really have stood the test of time, the fact that we are still talking about and using this radio in our droves is testament to how good it is.

Have to agree this rig is the ultimate in SSB DX
This was my second rig back in the 80's DV27 on a piece of corrugated Iron in loft I had an annoying K40 mic with the Bleep of the Century on it.and a Zetagi Burner not sure of power.
worked the Phillipines from hills in North wales with this using I think a Silver Rod or similar

ive found this is the best of the "old school "rigs having owned a few of the others.everything everyone else has said on pros,no drifting,great audio,a real classic.
i know my lincoln is "old school" but is at least programmable so i differentiate.

I owned one of these many moons ago, sadly eventually stolen from my car. (Couldn't really tell the police!)
Good rig, but difficult tese days to find a 'virgin' model that hasn't been messed with and modified, or had someone inside with a screwdriver thinking he can do by ear better than the factory could with their expensive test gear...
Very stable in response to varying supply voltages, thanks to the entire board being supplied from its own regulator, fixing the voltage at, from memory, about 7 volts.
Transmit audio quality is very good, but the receive was somewhat insensitive and noisy, due in part to a relatively wide filter bandwidth, making it a poor choice if intended for use on a very small antenna. The Multimode II (arch rival?) was a lot better in this respect, but suffers poor frequency stability with varying supply voltage.
Pity about the tacky looking shiny plastic front.

i am currently on my 15th cobra ,ive own both mark 1 and 2s even had a John Nugent one for a short while ,sold to by a hf radio .wot can u say a bout the 148 quite simply THE 11 meter ssb cb lengend .Hard to find a starught one now ,but mine is nearly 30 years old and still works fine, not the best radio but the one most people have heard off ,

Im on my second 148 the first one was back in the 80s with a Sadelta echo master mike
And I have one now with the Sadelta mike this rig is the only reason Im back on today
When i was looking on ebay and came across the word cobra 5 weeks ago
