Re: President Lincoln/Uniden 2830
Owned the Lincoln for many years, bought new and had no problems ever with it, worked the world and then some, back in the day! Sorry I sold it now. Found it good on recieve and audio out was awsome with the Astatic teardrop mic. Highly recomended radio with many glowing reports on the net. If they still made em, would buy another one.

Re: President Lincoln/Uniden 2830
I had a love hate relationship with my PL.
It worked excellently for TX and RX, audio is OK, a little better than most 11m radios but not as good as HF stuff. I had the high power unit and it would register 40w on a good meter.
The channel select on the mic used to annoy me as it only moved in zero's, Changing frequency whilst mobile was a proper pain.
A few useless buttons as well, but I wish I had of kept it. It did a good job for me overall.
A bit dated by todays standard, but not as dated as some of the 11m radios around

Re: President Lincoln/Uniden 2830
i lurrrrv mine mate.audio is often mistaken as a hf set and thats not with a teardrop, which by the bye guys i wanna get hold of.mines got a chipswitch fitted which takes it from 24-30 mhz, eliminates that annoying zeroing last digit on both the mic and up down buttons as its programmable in 5,10,100 kc incraments,30 mem presets, split freq tx/rx offsets and heaps of other stuff which brings it bang up to spec with newer radios like Als ranger.
im 100 percent mobile so bigger hf rigs for me are not feasible, but for 120 bullets for a minter shes a keeper.

Re: President Lincoln/Uniden 2830
After quite a few years off radio which included getting married and having a child then getting separated/divorced I found I had lot more time for myself again and my old interest's started to re-emerge including radios, I hunted down an old CB Radio friend I knew from the past to ask for some advice on some recent equipment etc and he recommended buying a Lincoln so I did.
I thought it was a great radio and I got really good reports on it, again like others here it was with an Astatic Teardrop mike, but even the stock mike was good, the audio output from the speaker was very good too and the rig was very sensitive to weak signals, I doctored mine a bit and the output was about 35 watts.
A made a bit of a 'too quick' decision and sold it though when I came into owning a Kenwood TS450s. I kind of regret letting it go now.
The President Lincoln was a good rig and well built too and I liked the modern styling.

Re: President Lincoln/Uniden 2830
had quite a few over the years, good radio tx audio is good but rx audio can sound a bit harsh at times, the frequency can jump due to a worn wratchet in the vfo. but there is a fix for this ? power is good but not being variable on ssb can be a problem, altogether a good radio, shame uniden has stopped making them.
