wilson 5000 1,4 wave mobile
not sure of the price nowadays but these are not cheap for a reason.i paid 70 for the roof mount version
i know a lot of you lads use sirio 3000/4000s and agree that these are an exellent antenna.
my 5k has now been constantly fixed to my works van for 2 years getting pounded and pummeled everyday by trees, wind rain, ice,low barriers/bridges.
i took it of for a service to find nothing needed doing exept to clean it.no bend in the whip,no sun damage, rust, no nothing.
its worked everything i could hear all of the time on 11/10,rendering my antron on a 20 foot pole for /portable work completely useless.
now with my mfj 941 it will tune out to 1.2 on every hf band and this can only be testiment to the wilsons rx capability in conjuntion with my mfj ,has worked dx on 80 through 10 as if its a dedicated whip for any of the afore mentioned bands.was gonna buy an atas 120 but with 120 watt power handling compared to 300 watt limit in the mfj 941 atu, there seems to be no point for me to get one.
cant praise this whip highly enough 10 out of 10.
my first wilson was a 1000 mag mount and was equally a world beater as is the 5k.
exellent.

Try a light bulb or any other dummy load they will give 1.1:1 SWR.
If using it on RX, then yes it will perform reasonably, but so did wire wrappred around my bookcase, but that was proof that it was an exellent antenna, simply evidence that any length of wire will work.

Re: wilson 5000 1,4 wave mobile
hi crimso.i sent you a pm mate.quite interested in hearing about your atas as youve a similar mobile set up to mine.point taken about swr.this however is my only antenna as i dont feel the need for multiple arrays etc,qso ing regularly on 80,40,20 and 10m with equally complimentary reports to those using dedicated band whips. ive owned many 11m mobile whips inc a k40 with this the clear winner.if there is anything out there that could go toe to toe let alone out dx/last it mobile id buy it tomorow such is my confidence in this product.look forward to your input.

Re: wilson 5000 1,4 wave mobile
Hi, Sorry but no PM in the inbox.
I do not personally use an ATAS. Mobile I use a variety of mono band antennas for the specific bands I use.
Using mono band antennas you get the best compromise available for the band being used.
The only multi band antennas I use are a Zepp, a random wire & the VHF/UHF colinear that I use my scanner.
