Re: DV27 mobile
I've used one of these, as most of you probably have.
The loading coil is at the top of the antenna and is wound with pretty thin wire protected by heat-shrunk sleeving. This part of the antenna is highly susceptible to damage if you regularly hit overhanging branches as the antenna is rigid and doesn't flex, so beware!
Tuning is accomplished by a 'capacity tip', and for this you loosen a collar near the top and slide the tip up or down as required. Tuning is very sharp so move the tip in small increments of perhaps 2mm, otherwise you will be forever going past the correct tuning point and start thinking the antenna is faulty...

Re: DV27 mobile
I could be wrong & I cannot google the answer, but I am sure I have seen a website that has plans for differnt lengths of whip in the capacity tip, to make this antenna tune up on various amateur bands.
If I remember correctly the idea was not to make a great antenna, but to show that it could be done.
