License info needed
Hi
back in the old days I was a 2E1 license holder, but yrs ago It lapsed, i rang the RSGB and ofcom who said all I need to do is fill in a form and send 20 quid admin fee and I'll get it back, someone then told me i'll get back an intermediate licens, so i googled it and all i could find was some out of date info that said there are two types of intermediate, one can use hf and one cant, but as the morse has been scrapped does this mean my license will allow me to use HF?
I have tried researcjing it on the t'internet but cant seem to find out.

Re: License info needed
All ham ops can now use HF, all ham ops can now do just about anything except use any power.
M3/M6's can only use 10 watts, 2E's can use 100W and M1'/M0's can use the full 400
Thats the basic difference

Re: License info needed
Thats good news!, although I feel a bit cheeky getting hf access when all i had to do was make a light bulb circuit with drawing pins and tick a few boxes, G7's will turn in there graves lol
Im not too worried about power restrictions as ill just use radio power anyway.
thanks for the help, i couldnt get any up to date info on the net.

Re: License info needed
if you are having trouble with obtaining your old callsign, try to find an old rsgb callbook with your callsign in it, send a copy as proof.(i had this problem)
ps, did you know your new license will last for 5 years instead of 1, and i think its free now anyway!!
pps, you could do your advanced licence "M0" and use 400w.....

Re: License info needed
Right,
I have just managed to obtain my licence from the ofcom website i did it all online and got a PDF of my licence and terms and conditions etc however I have a big question...
On my actual licence my call sign is written as 21***
Should it not read 2E1***
If anyone holds a 2E1 licence could look at there licence and let me know if there licence misses the "E" out or not id greatly appreciate it!
I have emailed ofcom asking the question but it may take 7 days to get a reply and a further 7 days for an ammendment if needed.
Thanks

I've never had a 2E licence, but the reason it says that on your licence is because the prefix is amended by the user depending on where you are operating from, 2E1 is for England, but if you went to Scotland you would have to use the call 2M1, it is just a slightly different way that the callsign is altered to show which contry you are in. A foundation or full licence holder would just have an M or G callsign to show they are in England, and then add the M in if they went to Scotland, so my M1 callsign would then become MM1 in Scotland, M3 would be MM3, G1 would be GM1, etc. etc.
In some calls (M1,M3,G0 etc.)the extra letter is added, but in the 2E callsign the letter is changed to show which country you are in, hence why the country prefix does not appear on your licence.
Hope that makes sence, amateur callsings are a ***** to understand, if you you ask me they should use country prefixes like on 11M, lolol
