Re: Mobile Amp WANTED!
Hey Paddy, I've just restored a CTE valve amp, its not mobile I'm afraid. I'm just waiting for the valve to arrive from the States. Its listed as 100watt AM/FM and 200watt SSB (Although I dont beleive that, and I reckon its good for 100watts whatever mode you're in).
Good thing is that with a valve amp the audio is miles and miles better, you know when you hear those deep crisp stations? They're generally using valve PA's. With some good tuned audio and a 100watt valve amp you should be able to work what you can hear with the right antenna.
Let me know if you're interested, its not quite ready yet, but I only want what it cost me and that'll top up at about thirty quid to an FB member.

Re: Mobile Amp WANTED!
Paddy, it seems I was a bit optomistic about the Speedy amp. Its not a valve issue. I fitted the new valve and the amp works up to around 70w with 5w in. But, and its a big but, even after careful tuning the amp overheats massively if the mic is keyed for more than a few seconds. It has melted some of the wiring, that now needs replacing.
The valve is capable of at least 100w tuned right, but there are other components that are suspect.
I'm going to fix it but it wont be a five minute job I'm afraid, one very fried capacitor is very inaccessable behind the front panel and it will need a lot of unsoldering and re-soldering to replace it??
Also the wires into the transformer have been melted by the heat from the valve, I didnt think this was going to be much of an issue, but it looks a mess, so its going to be re-built totally.
Another PA project then, I already have a KL400, KL500 and now the CTE valve job on the go. And the Bremi will only give me 400w, and I cant figure out why? The valves are good, the power supply capacitors have been replaced? Everything else appears good.
If theres no skip tomorrow I'm having the Bremi to bits, to try and sort it, those valves are good for 100 watts each definately, and theres five of them. Unfortunately you can only test components after they're disconnected, but its all part of the hobby
Dave
