Re: Avanti AV101 Astroplane / New Sirio Top One hi pat/jon! like i said in my last post the astroplane that i had worked well for me! but that was JUST me!! anybody else it could be rubbish!! alot depends on location! i dont know what antenna you have now patrick?? i have made quite a lot as well with my bazooka being the best home made antenna to date! maybe try the £20 5/8?? if you dont like it its only 20 quid lost and not 60+ 73s rich.
Re: Avanti AV101 Astroplane / New Sirio Top One Hi Rich again, just to answer your question my antenna for 11m is an Solarcon Imax 2000 about 11m off the ground, it works well from 18 MHz up, since I took the ground planes off though (four 12ft wires) I think the TX and RX has declined quite a bit.
It would be interesting to see how the £20 GP or Silver rod type 5/8 wave vertical would stand up against the Imax at £90, you know I would not be too surprised if there was not a lot in it.
Re: Avanti AV101 Astroplane / New Sirio Top One hi there patrick! the imax 2000 is quite a good antenna! i believe it is about 24 feet long!! 3x8 feet sections? this should make it a .64 wave! i dont think you will better your set up with the astroplane!! the imax should trounce it!! it would be very interesting to see how much better the imax is over a silver rod 5/8 wave!!! i think most people would be supprised! let us know if you do the experiment? i would like to know what you think? 73s rich.
