Re: My next antenna project :) That is disgusting. And unfair.
Here's a point:
I may possibly one day if I'm very lucky and the wind blows the right way, aquire a field 1000 feet up. If I were to erect, say, a 100 foot tower up there, would I need to put some kind of aviation warning light on it?
It's a serious question actually, but one I can't seem to find an answer to. There must be regulations for this type of thing, mustn't there? Hmmm...
Re: My next antenna project :) I think for a tower of that height even in a field you would need council permision.
They would also tell you if you need a light.
Re: My next antenna project :) Possibly.
40 feet is more likely in my real world, a guyed aluminium pole. Not a patch on the sytem you linked to - perhaps I should forget about becoming a hot-shot contester then?
Re: My next antenna project :) Don't worry the Air navigation order specifies towers over 250' must be lit by one omni red continuous light but 249' requires diddly squat funny old world hey?
There's a proviso concerning distance from airfields too basically if you live in a ATCZ (Airfield Traffic control Zone) then you are screwed by the nav order. just in case you're wondering , an ATCZ is 5 nautical miles around airfield extending 10nm along the runway centreline, ie like a key hole shape with two extended bits on it.

Too much competition!
I would not give up just yet Andy, many stations and good scores can be worked on smaller ariels and you might get some comeback too if you ad "QRP" to your call.
