It's a CB MASTER one!! emoticon

Acually I think it's reasonably accurate - twin meter jobbie that seems to read about right when terminated in a 24 ohm or a 100 ohm resistance. (also reads zero SWR on my 50 ohm dummy load.)

After all, we aren't looking for precision here, just an approximation as I'm sure you'd agree. emoticon

It is of course possible to get a pure resistive 50 ohm antenna - a centre-fed dipole near the ground would exhibit this, depending on the precise height.

Or even 52 ohms maybe, of course your right but even the output of 98% of radios is not a perfect match and it doesnt need to be either for excellent operation. Even top end radios (an icom 7800 at 54.5 ohms for eg)vary on manufacturing tolerances quite a lot. A 1:1 on one transmitter will not as likely be 1:1 on another, that was the important point, and any antenna can be made to be 50-53 ohms nominal or 1:1 but only at one frequency, the rest of the time we are in the real world, are'nt we?. emoticon John193
