Feminisim
Ouch.
I was talking to some friends of mine, the group was 'mixed', guys and girls together. Our debate of the day : feminisim
I thought 'Feminism' has gone too far, it's getting out of hand, some of the guys, though, were being incredibly sexist and disagreed with some of the girls, were taking the stance, that Feminism hadn't gone far enough, another group (guys and girls) decide that it wasn't a relevant issue.
If you understood that ramble, you can probably work out that in the end everyone had said their point but hadn't manage to persuade any of the others.
So what are your views?
Please, don't just say, I agree with the above poster. I really want to hear different views and opinions.
Peace!

Re: Feminisim
Well, just to make sure we're starting on firm footing, when you say that "feminism has gone too far," how exactly are you defining feminism?

Re: Feminisim
The definition I was using, is by no means official, but was that women are superior to men, more intellligent, more capable, and of more value to the society.
The arguements, I heard for this included, 'women are the mothers that bring everyone into the world' - which I think is the stupidest thing I have heard in a long time. Also, that women's brains are bigger, meaning they are smarter,'nature meant it to be that way'. Again, I think another arguement that is worth nothing.
If we were to change the definition, to women being equal to men, feminism to me, would have a little more standing.

Re: Feminisim
Yes, the notion that women are better than men (while is, jokingly, obviously true) is just as ludicrous as the idea that men are better than women.
I generally define feminism as taking pride in being female, believing in the equality of the sexes, and recognizing the need for women to be treated as equal to men.
And, I think that whatever a man can do, a woman should be given a chance at. And, if she performs equally as well (which in most non-physical cases she will, all other factors being equal), then she should be paid equally. However, like and equal are not the same thing (yay Madeline L'Engle). For instance, I have no problem with men treating women differently than other men, and vice versa. I like the idea that a man would open the car door for a woman, and it's very nice if a woman cooks dinner for her husband. But... a woman can open her own door and a man can cook his own dinner.
Oh, and under no circumstances should a man hit a woman. He is going to be so much stronger than her, physically, and it's not fair for a guy who probably weighs at least 50, probably 100 pounds more than the woman to just hit her. If she's attacking him, he should wrap her in a bear hug, or something. But he should never hit her.

Hmmm...well, personally, ever since seeing The Stepford Wives I've been holding out hope for a robo-wife who'll cook, clean, and be cheerfully compliant to my every whim while I play golf and drink beer in my La-Z-Boy recliner.
...Okay, maybe not.

Re: Feminisim
The way I see it, God created us as equals. It wasn't until Adam and Eve sinned that He said that men are the head of the household and that women should submit. So, in my opinion, we should strive to be how God initially intended it to be--equals. And if I ever marry, then that's how my husband should be thinking along the lines of too. I refuse to marry someone who thinks of me as lower than themselves.
That being said, I have no problem respecting and supporting my husband--as long as he does the same for me. As some of you know, I'd been having some problems with this issue, but a friend of mine who's married has been helping me a lot. I doubt she realizes it, but she does.
Anyway. Those were my thoughts.

Re: Feminisim
Heres my oppinon
I believe that God made man to be the stronger physically of the two, I believe that God made him to be the leader of the household. And to what postscript said I'm not saying that just because he's head of the household that he should think of us as lower, because I don't want no husband thinking that hes better than me But have you noticed how in all the movies now a days they are making the dad look more and more stupid????And they make guys look like wusses!!!!!!I mean in a lot of the new movies especiallly from Disney the guys are all getting in touch with their feminine side.Like for example Highschool musical he wants to be a singer. Now theres nothing wrong with guy singers but still for another example like in the New Disney movie Jump In the guy wants to drop boxing for Jump roping!!!!!! I also agree with what LadyGodiva said I believe that women should be able to have a chance at doing everything a man can,and yes I thinka man should never hit a woman!!!! Neyway thats my opinion!

Re: Feminisim
So, I think the view here seems to be 'All the fingers on a hand are not equal, but it does not mean they are not fingers'.
Am I correct?
