Just curious, but how can you know if they're "glorifying witchcraft" if you haven't read them? After all, books can be different than movies. A friend of mine was taking a children's literature class at a Christian college, and they were reading Harry Potter, and some people complained about it. They didn't think it was morally right. So the professor told them to just read the first chapter or two, and then if they still thought it was wrong, then they could stop. They all read it, and no one objected.

I don't know. They're a fun read at first, but get monotonous after a while. I know that for me, Harry Potter has had no effect on my spiritual life, and I have no desire to practice witchcraft after reading them (although I was secretly hoping for a Hogwarts letter when I turned 11). *Shrugs* They're not as great as they're made out to be, and they're also not as bad (in the magic/witchcraft/sorcery department) as they're made out to be.

Yes, that is a good point and I guess I should apologize for my statements that I have no first hand proof of. However, in the movies, which I have seen a good number of, I felt that witchcraft was being glorified in some ways. I also have to agree with you in saying that even the movies get rather boring after you've watched the the third movie, but you felt like you just watched another version of the first one...if that makes any sense.

It's no big deal. I'm not a big fan of them or anything. :]

I can't say whether or not they glorify witchcraft, but they certainly do glorify mediocre writing, and that's enough to put them out of the running for me. emoticon

As mediocre as they may be, I'm still going to a release party tonight. Ironically, there's going to be a magician there.

Adding yet more fuel to the fire, J.K. Rowling has now outed Dumbledore as gay:

This has caused an uproar among devoted fans. Fans who are upset about the sexuality of a fictional character. A deceased fictional character, no less.

To quote the immortal words of William Shatner: "Get a life!"
