Hip...
I've been having some problems with my hip following a fall in cross country my sophomore season. Well, after a year and half of me saying, "Something is wrong, I need someone to fix it," my mom finally took me to the chiropractor to see what was up.
Sure enough, my hip has been out of place this entire time, so the guy popped it back in and adjusted a bunch of stuff and sent me on my merry way. But apparently going to the chiro makes it hurt MORE and also makes different places hurt. I've been 3 times this week and it's been back out every time...and I know that something is wrong...normally when you put your legs straight out in front of you and relax, they just stay up, but when I do, my bad leg flops onto its side (the entire side of my leg all the way up to my hip is resting on the floor) and I can't hold it up.
And on top of my hip hurting even worse, now my entire leg hurts because he moved other stuff that wasn't hurt around...and I can't run because it hurts too much. I'm just really really frustrated because nobody seems to get that it HURTS, I'm in pain, it's not getting better and I just want them to FIX IT!!!! So if you could please just pray that I at least have patience and get better before senior cross country, I'd REALLY appreciate it and love you forever.

Re: Hip...
You know, this may sound weird, but if I were you, I'd go back and have the doctor look at it again, and give you a referral to Physical Therapy, if he will. I've been in PT for most of this year, and it was EXTREMELY helpful. I've been told to avoid chiropractors like the plague. Maybe that's just for my problem, I don't know. But I might talk to your doctor about waht he thinsk. I believe, Chiropractors treat the symptom instead of trying to teach you how to use it properly. I could be wrong, but chiropractors also seem to creat a sort of dependency on themselves. Maybe you could talk to your doctor about it. It sounds like maybe your muscles need to be strengthened in the hip, since pain can definitely keep you from using the hip muscles the same way you would have otherwise. If someone were to teach you the right exercises, it might aid your muscles in helping your hip not keep popping out of joint. Just a couple of thoughts though. I hope it gets better!

Re: Hip...
Thanks, guys.
Sarah, I've been telling my mom that I need to see a specialist or PT for a long time now but she keeps saying "Well the don't just take hypochondriacs," and then telling me she'll get around to it. In the meantime, I went to the chiropractor again yesterday and he did new "things" to me and now I just hurt more, so I'm not going back. I think my mom's finally trying to get an orthopedic person to look at me next week, but I don't know.
As it remains, I'm in great shape and could be faster than ever but for my hip...I tried to run a 5K on Saturday and I was going great, my first mile split was 8:02 and I was going strong but then the pain was too much and I had to stop. I could have been in the 23 minute range otherwise. I'm just getting REALLY frustrated because I could be getting SO many PR's since I'm in great shape except for this stupid old injury that that stupid chiropractor made worse instead of fixing. And he keeps making me come back and he pops it back in but it's out again within 2 hours and then it hurts worse. ARGGG!

Re: Hip...
I went and saw and orthopedic doctor today. He said that I have a really weak pelvis but there might be something else wrong too. He took xrays and they didn't show anything out of the ordinary, so I have to go get an MRI tomorrow. Oh the joy.

Re: Hip...
Oh...best of luck. I hate MRIs. Be prepared...it could be a long...claustrophobic time. My longest MRI was 3 hours long...straight...lying in a tube. That was the most miserable experience of my life, quite possibly.
