James1:26,27
Jam 1:26 If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.
Jam 1:27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world

Re: James1:26,27
Would anyone care to expand on the scripture (26)?

Re: James1:26,27
I think this verse parallels with what Jesus said, what comes from a man's heart is revealed in his words. We really need to look at our walk whether at church or with in the world. How to we react to different situations and people. Do we react like a christian when we are with a non believer or do we act as they do to further "inhance" our look. Or do we stand firm as a true believer should and stand up for what God's word teaches us. We cannot live both lives. We have to totatlly commit ourselves to Christ.
Verse 27 I think he is trying to say that our perseverence to resist the "worlds" way through our actions and speech shows our intentions of our hearts. Turning our lives over to Christ shows in the transformation of our hearts. They way we show compassion to others, helping those in need, praying for each other, not being self serving but having a heart to help others and be God's servant.
If we continue to live our lives, blinded, not seeing the needs of others, keeping up with those next door, going to church, praying and then coming home and being blinded to someones needs is not what God calls us to do. He wants us to embrace others, and show them Gods love, His grace, His power, His glory and so much more.
praise God, Joleen

Re: James1:26,27
It's all about integrity, not just talking a good game, blowing hot air, but walking the walk by putting into action the commands of God's word.

Re: James1:26,27
Absolutely Ladies. You have it. Thank you so much.
Something to think about again:
CONCLUSION
1. What kind of religion do YOU have?
a. Is it a PRACTICING religion?
1) Does it go beyond the walls of a building?
2) Does it go beyond the printed pages of the Bible?
3) Does it go beyond a superficial hearing of the Word?
b. Is it a PRACTICAL religion?
1) Does it consist of more than JUST "going to church, reading,
and praying"?
2) Does it reach out and manifest itself in compassion to those
in need?
c. Is it a PERSONAL religion?
1) Going beyond what we may do in conjunction with others?
2) Including our personal involvement apart from what others may
do?
d. And is it a PURE religion?
1) Involving our initial cleansing from sin by the blood of Christ
as we in faith repented and were baptized?
2) Involving our continual cleansing by the blood of Christ as we
confess our sins and repent of them?
3) Does it include a putting away of sin with the help of God so
that we might be "unspotted by the world"?
2. If not, then whatever religion we have is USELESS and we are simply
DECEIVING OURSELVES!
Let's always encourage one another to be sure and have a "Pure And
Undefiled Religion" before God!

Love those four "P's". Wonderful food for thought, just what our hungering minds need.

Re: James1:26,27
I don't have anything to add, but I've loved reading what everyone else has written.
The really important things in the Bible are very easy to understand! This is one of those.
If we love God, we will love His children and care about their struggles and needs.
That is what this message board is, completely. Caring enough about others to listen, to pray, to reach out. I also feel it offers a place for those of us who are sick at home and unable to get out and do things physically much, a place to minister.
I truly believe that the church (body of believers) will prosper when its vision is outward and not inward. When we respond to God's nudges to do what is right for others, everything else in our lives will fall into place.
What a wonderful Gospel this is!
thanks Gale and everyone!

Re: James1:26,27
Taking a deep breath ....
Virginia, you said exactly what I was feeling. This board is just a wonderful example of what James was telling the scattered tribes.
Karen , you are so right. Integrity! What a wonderful choice of words. Walk the walk, not talk the talk.
As Virginia said, we see this walk, everyday here, as we pray for , encourage and support each other. I feel, if there was anyway, any of us could do something for anyone here, or next door , we would if at all possible.
I enjoyed Jollens writing as well. Do we enhance our look as the occasion calls for so to speak, or are we Christians every time we are seen?
We have completed chapter one of James. I am so proud of the participation from each of you. Thank you.
I have grown personally, and understand points from different perspectives. All of you helped do that.
God Bless you and we will continue with James chapter 2, unless anyone has anything at all to add for Chapter one.
It was all about the church, and what kind of church we should be.
Are we going too slow, too fast, or any suggestions for the next chapters?
Gale
