Daniel 2: 17-23
I'll let you read your own scripture text here again and share with you Beth's insights.
This portion of the chapter shows how Daniel and his friends turned to God in prayer. They did not have the answers for the king and were facing brutal execution. This was a desperated time for them but they put there complete trust in God for deliverance from these impossible circumstances.
In verse 18 it says that they were pleading for mercy from God. The Aramaic word translated 'plead' means "to ask, pray for, look for' and in this case with great urgency. She says, interetingly, the word occurs 12 times in scripture, each time in the book of Daniel.
The remainder of the discussion here was about the importance of prayer, and having partners in prayer.
Next look at verses 20-23: what is happening here?

Re: Daniel 2: 17-23
Thank you Karen.
I will paste the scripture here for any who can't not muster getting the Bible out this morning. ok?
Dan 2:17 ¶ Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions:
Dan 2:18 That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise [men] of Babylon.
Dan 2:19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.
Dan 2:20 Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his:
Dan 2:21 And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:
Dan 2:22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what [is] in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.
Dan 2:23 I thank thee, and praise thee, O thou God of my fathers, who hast given me wisdom and might, and hast made known unto me now what we desired of thee: for thou hast [now] made known unto us the king's matter.
In these scriptures, I see mighty , fervent prayer. In teh asking, and in the thanking. Daniel was a mighty prayer warrior. He was in God's favor and Daniel never failed to praise Him.
The dream was revealed to Daniel ,and the deaths were spared.
Teaches us, what fervent, humble, honest prayer and praise can do.

Re: Daniel 2: 17-23
Thanks Gale. The latter portion of this passage shows how Daniel gave thanks and praise to God for answering their prayers.
In the lesson, Beth talks about how so often we don't take the time to give praises for the results of prayer because we are too busy having moved on to our next need. She points out that if we'd take the time we'd see that God answers more prayers than we realize.
This is one reason I love our prayer forums here so much. So often in other situations you may pray with or for people but then never really hear about the outcome. It is so nice here that we have the continuous follow up on the situations we bring before the throne.
Again Beth stresses how we need to be intentional in our prayer, in our thanksgiving, in our support of one another.
Next is the interpretation of the king's dream. Here is where it really gets interesting!...

Re: Daniel 2: 17-23
I like your comments here, Karen (and Gale's too!)
And yes, too soon, we seem to forget our triumphs, the miracles we have seen! I feel this is talking straight to ME. The fears I have about surgery, when God brought me through the dark valley with great triumph and victory before!
A wonderful praise right now is that we prayed that Zoe's dh would stay home last night, and he did! Hallelujah!! Let's keep up that prayer each night!
thanks for this lesson, K!
