The Beattitudes
From Matthew 5, this one keeps me going through everything.
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when men revile you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven.
--- Bark less, and wag more often.

Re: The Beattitudes
Wanted to add something to the above. Being in church music for many years, my memory of scripture comes from music. I believe David Haas, a Catholic priest wrote a piece on the Beattitudes which is my favorite. He rewrote the last one which gives a different flavor:
Rejoice, and be glad, blessed are you, holy are you!
Rejoice, and be glad, yours is the kingdom of God.
--- Bark less, and wag more often.

Re: The Beattitudes
Thanks for sharing that. I have many songs that touch me and now that I am reading and studying my bible I see where many of the verses in my favorite songs come from.
I think hearing them in song really helps the memory. I do struggle with learning verses and have started to write them down on index cards.
In our bible study we are studying Psalms. A CD was included in our book so by listening to it then reading the bible I am able to remember more but still have trouble bringing it back up to speak it aloud to others.
I am sure this will improve the more I study the word. Thanks again...Sue

Re: The Beattitudes
I love these. Thank you David for sharing ... How sweet to have a place to come and see them anytime we need to. David, you have been ever close to my heart and prayers this week, along with many others here.

Re: The Beattitudes
So many blessings and benedictions upon us. So many promises. That we will be blessed in the next world, if not in this, when we are peacemakers, when we mourn, when we are meek.
The word of God is almost always backwards to the understanding of the world. His ways are not our ways. The world thinks that we need to stand up and not take anything sitting down. God says that we are blessed and will inherit the earth. Ain't His word just wonderful??
thanks for all these notes.
