A question reguarding watching videos online.

I can never get them to play right. They keep freezing up and buffering. It's become very frusterating lately. emoticon

That'll always happen with streaming video on dialup, and I know of one person who has had this happen with her DSL. If it's possible to save the video to your hard drive and then watch the offline copy, then that is what I recommend. If your only choice is to watch it without downloading and saving first, then you (and I both) are just screwed. emoticon

I try to pause it and wait until the little buffering line is near full and then play it. I find that it stops and starts because it plays faster than it can buffer or however you call it. emoticon

Happens all the time, and there is nothing you can do other than get a real speedy connection emoticon

We use AT&T DSL ... it's only 20 bucks amonth. We recently had a mix up with our service, AT&T's fault and we temporarily had to use a dial-up number. I just about when nuts having to wait for sites to download, I gave up with the videos.

We are now back to normal and I am a very happy man.

It doesn't matter how fast your connection is...You're only as fast as the site you're visiting...

If a site you're trying to view a video on has a lot of traffic then videos are going to be a lot slower and messed up...

Try to visit sites when you think they'll be less traffic or find out when you have the least amount of problems ( Is it night time ? In the morning ? Afternoon ? )

If push comes to shove and you're still having problems and you're on high speed...There's programs you can install to leech a video file from a site so you can watch it from your computer instead of relying on the server...I use UnPlug for Firefox...

Bhagwan, I got a bit excited at your mention of $20/month for DSL, but then I read the fine print:

This limited-time offer provides the first 12 months of AT&T DSL Service at $20 per month off the current rate of the AT&T DSL Service Standard Plan (currently $39.95 a month) and Preferred Plan (currently $49.95 a month) for new customers only. A $19.99 shipping and handling fee applies. Offer includes unlimited high-speed Internet access and 20 hours of dial-up access for away-from-home use and is available to residential AT&T Local Service customers only. Other charges and taxes may apply. Other terms and conditions may apply. Service is not available in all areas and continued availability is subject to AT&T's ability to reasonably obtain underlying facilities. Offer subject to change without notice.

I'll probably hold out until I get a big website contract before signing up for DSL. As much as I hate dialup now, I know I'll hate it even more after being spoiled for a year with DSL. emoticon

Belli, thanks for the added info. emoticon I just read how it works, and I already do that myself by looking at the source code, lol, but I think a lot of people could really use Unplug. emoticon

I've tried that and that only works some of the time.

Same here.

I know you're hesitant about downloading new programs, but Unplug might help. Alternately, if you can find the file name in the source code of the page, you can create an HTML page on your hard drive and make a link to that file on there, then right-click on the link and "save target as".
