SOS - The GIMP did not un-install cleanly - print malfunctions
For personal reasons, I had been trying to make a copy of my insurance ID & registration.
So I took a digicam photo & tried printing but ever since Downloading the GIMP, printouts would not work.
I can't even offer a screenshot of my problem since when I SAVE AS .gif it insists on overwriting all my saved images to GIMP all across the board.
Suffice that:
After having selected Add/Remove Files
then chose to Delete the GIMP
Then it stated: Gimp successfully removed
YET:
My system STILL insists on overwriting all my saved images to GIMP all across the board. Except that since the Add/Remove procedure, all images now display as icons of a folded sheet of white paper with a window superimposed.
also the system has residues such as:
gimp-airbrush-tool (in c:\doc & settings\Judy\gimp-2.2\tool-options
YET:
When I tried to delete all the residues (such as the above) it displays:
Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk
I'm very ill and cannot afford this.
Please help!
(I don't own a scanner, nor xerox, & my old-fashined fax broke last year.
All I have is the slow HP Laserjet 6L
I want my GIF & BMP images to display as GIF ICONS and BMP ICONS just like they did prior to GIMP installation.
I'm sorry I ever installed GIMP because the learning curve was difficult, so I never accomplished the buttons I wanted to make,
and furthemore, it created printing troubles for me.

Re: SOS - The GIMP did not un-install cleanly - print malfunctions
I'm sorry the GIMP has caused you problems, Monitorp, and I hope I can help you solve your problem.
Based on your comments, I see you still have the GIMP 2.2 folder. Go into that folder, and see if you still have unins000.exe or something similar there, and run it. This is the uninstaller that comes with the GIMP, and should be able to uninstall it completely.
If you run this and it still doesn't uninstall completely, you might want to try a System Restore. But do not do this without further instruction first, because it will also wipe out any other programs you might have installed since the last restore point, or revert any programs you might have upgraded since then.
=================
To change "file associations" (which program opens a given type of file by default):
Right-click on the image file and choose "Properties."
In the resulting dialog box, click on the "Change" button.
Choose your preferred program, then click "Ok."
Please let me know how it goes.

Go into that folder, and see if you still have unins000.exe or something similar there, and run it.
There isn't any such file in the .gimp-2.2 folder
The only "U" listed was:
unitrc File 2 KB
P.S. I just figured out how to get the GIMPs to open with Windows Viewer (which enables all my images to print, whereas before they didn't.
Still, the residues still remain in Doc & Settings, and my images now either Save As Windows Viewer icons, or else as BMP or JPEG icons (but they refuse to Save As GIF icons & GIF File Types.
Examples - when I right-click Properties:
Type of File: Bitmap Image
Opens With: Windows Picture
Type of File: JPEG Image
Opens With: Windows Picture
Type of File: TheGIMP20
Opens With: Windows Picture
What would happen if I simply delete the .gimp-2.2 folder?

Try Control Panel, Add/Remove programs
I was going to say she already did that, but it couldn't hurt to check it again and see if it's still listed after going through the removal process the first time.
Moose... You have 2.2, right? I have an older version (2.0.5) and unitrc isn't in my main GIMP folder (it's about 3 folders deep instead), so maybe the 2.2 uninstall file is also in a different folder or something?
Monitorp...

That's weird. Are you trying to save them directly from the web? Or are you trying to save them on an image program (Paint, for example)?

Re: SOS - The GIMP did not un-install cleanly - print malfunctions
Hmmm... mine is in the main GIMP folder:
C:\GIMP-2.0.5\unins000.exe
Does yours have the same filename?
And how did you get an older version than mine? I thought you downloaded yours sometime after my last upgrade.

Re: SOS - The GIMP did not un-install cleanly - print malfunctions
That's weird. Are you trying to save them directly from the web? Or are you trying to save them on an image program (Paint, for example)?
For example: Just now I right-clicked on your temple icon, & chose:
"Save Picture As"
File Name: temple
Save As Type: GIF
[SAVE]
Whereupon it saved it onto my Desktop
Albeit:
Upon Viewing the temple Icon
it displays as paper folded on upper-right corner
and its Properties state:
Type of File: TheGIMP20
Opens With: Windows Picture and...
As for Add/Remove suggested by Mooseman,
Lesigner is correct (been there done that already)
But it left residues
Once again:
What would happen if I simply delete the .gimp-2.2 folder?
Would this remedy the residual quirks?
