Pat Robertson recently made another "prediction"

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Jan. 3) - In what has become an annual tradition of prognostications, religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said Tuesday God has told him that a terrorist attack on the United States would result in "mass killing" late in 2007.

"I'm not necessarily saying it's going to be nuclear," he said during his news-and-talk television show "The 700 Club" on the Christian Broadcasting Network. "The Lord didn't say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that."

Robertson said God told him during a recent prayer retreat that major cities and possibly millions of people will be affected by the attack, which should take place sometime after September.

Robertson said God also told him that the U.S. only feigns friendship with Israel and that U.S. policies are pushing Israel toward "national suicide."

Robertson suggested in January 2006 that God punished then-Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon with a stroke for ceding Israeli-controlled land to the Palestinians.

The broadcaster predicted in January 2004 that President Bush would easily win re-election. Bush won 51 percent of the vote that fall, beating Democratic Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts.

In 2005, Robertson predicted that Bush would have victory after victory in his second term. He said Social Security reform proposals would be approved and Bush would nominate conservative judges to federal courts.

Lawmakers confirmed Bush's 2005 nominations of John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court . But the president's Social Security initiative was stalled.

"I have a relatively good track record," he said. "Sometimes I miss."

In May, Robertson said God told him that storms and possibly a tsunami were to crash into America's coastline in 2006. Even though the U.S. was not hit with a tsunami, Robertson on Tuesday cited last spring's heavy rains and flooding in New England as partly fulfilling the prediction.

What a blow hard... if God WAS speaking to him... do you think he would be "relatively" good track record. I could make some predictions also with a "relatively" good chance that some would come true.

Exactly. emoticon If "God" was telling Pat Robertson what was going to happen, then "God" isn't as perfect as people claim "He" is, or "He" is lying to Pat. But "God" supposedly doesn't lie, either, so that leaves us with only one possibility...

Pat is lying!

Even "believers" should be able to realize that he's lying, and I can't for the life of me figure out why he still has enough viewers to keep him on TV. emoticon

God seems a little misguided about international politics. And meteorology. And common sense. Poor Rev. Robertson! Someone should tell him to find a smarter deity.

But then again, this is the diety that guided him on a holy mission to diamond mines in Africa...

Would God telling someone what's going to happen violate free will ?

I don't know if I believe him, but I wouldn't be surprised if we did get hit hard this year.

Belli, I don't think telling someone of an impending disaster would violate free will, since the recipient of that information can choose how to deal with that information. Hardening hearts such as Pharoah's and many others as told in the story, however, would.

Now, subjecting humanity to widespread death and destruction would not be indicative of a benevolent God.

My question is, why would God warn us of impending disaster? To keep us safe? If so, then why send that disaster in the first place?

Dorotea, with all the other terrorist attacks going on around the world, and with the way our administration has been oppressing Muslims and supporting others who do the same, a lot of people are pretty much expecting another big attack in the U.S. sometime soon. If Pat happens to be right, then it's only because he based his prediction on the most obvious odds.

I predict that another class 5 hurricane will hit the Americas within the next 3 years. emoticon

And why just one or two people ? If God really wants us to know...Why doesn't he tell us all ?

Wow! Your prediction came true! emoticon

Belli asked:

Well, it would sure beat having to rely on a scam artist who has given incorrect "predictions" before.

I've long thought that, if there's a sentient god out there that wants us to know he exists and wants us to worship him, then why not (1) show himself to everyone and (2) show us that he's worthy of worship, and not some jealous tyrant who kills innocent babies and threatens everyone with eternal hellfire just to scare us into worshiping him?
