Forget Homosexuals. God Hates Shrimp.

There’s a great documentary you must see. It’s entitled “For the Bible Tells Me So.” It’s a very sad comment on how we as a culture have treated gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders (GLBT). And what’s the impetus for such lousy treatment? Yep, The Bible. Or what people believe the Bible says. As one biblical scholar noted, there’s a difference between what the Bible reads and what it says. But that would involve study on the part of these holy rollers. In the New York Times a great article addresses the dissemination of incorrect material and data and how likely it is that initially incorrect information is propagated and advanced. That’s what happened with the Bible. So many devotees swear they’re read it and understand it and swear that it proscribes being gay. Not so fast, Tonto.
How many of you believe the Bible declaims against homosexuality? You know, the part that says a man can’t lie with a man in Leviticus. Sodom and Gomorrah. It’s clear, right? Not necessarily so. It seems that the Bible is more clear on the prohibition of shrimp eating than being gay. God hates shrimp. There’s even a website devoted to such. Swear to God. As they say: pinch the head, suck the head, burn in hell.
Leviticus 11:9-12 says:
9 These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat.
10 And all that have not fins and scales in the seas, and in the rivers, of all that move in the waters, and of any living thing which is in the waters, they shall be an abomination unto you:
11 They shall be even an abomination unto you; ye shall not eat of their flesh, but ye shall have their carcases in abomination.
12 Whatsoever hath no fins nor scales in the waters, that shall be an abomination unto you.
Deuteronomy 14:9-10 says:
9 These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat:
10 And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you.
Well, there you have it. Forget gay bath houses as dens of iniquity. Focus on Red Lobster.

oh the good book....
maybe there are some guidelines towards living a humane, mindful, loving life in its many versions... but there is some crap as well... i think the wisdom within is gleaned most effectively if one reads it metaphorically and not literally.

i think the wisdom within is gleaned most effectively if one reads it metaphorically and not literally.
And that's the problem, isn't it? Its always taken so literally.
I knew I was a sinner. I love shrimp. Wonder if that means a shrimp-eating homosexual will burn hotter in perdition's eternal fire?

I agree with Toxi, some people take it too literally. I think the Bible is good book, most people just misinterpret what it says. Oh and this is funny:
