The drawings of Mohammed
From CNN
The Drwings of Mohammed
Im choosing to post this article here in the no hold back forum , because this is a subject dear to me.
I am all for the right of the press to say and print what they want. We supposedly live in a free country.
These drawings of Mohammed are no worse than drawings of Bush , Saddam , the Danish Queen , etc , you get my point.
Considering the state the world is in , it wasnt a good idea to publish these caricatures, but we cant let fundamentalists take control and frighten the rest of the world into submission. We cant let fundamentalists decide how the rest of the world should live.
It is gotten to this point that fear controls how we live. Just having a danish flag means danger of getting blown up by fundamentalists idiots.
I am not saying all muslims think like that , but the problem is that it is the fundamentalists who rule and they frighten everyone else into doing what they want.
I support the publishing of these drawings simply because o the right of freedom of speech.
This "Bin Laden our beloved, Denmark must be blown up," protesters in Ramallah chanted.
What is this sick attitude ? They burn the danish flag , threatened the ppl in Denmark , Norway and France , all because of drawings
Ill be back later with more

Re: The drawings of Mohammed
yes I agree and I want to see these images now they have made such a big song and dance about them. It will be interesting to see now if a terrorist attack is aimed at Denmark because of it. It is very sad to see a culture of "blowing things up" to make everything better again, it has never worked and never will.
I cannot understand people that go totally against their religion in the name of it, I really cannot! and over something as trivial as a cartoon? give me a break.
Ive seen plenty of religious cartoons some funny some in poor taste of christ as well and I think they have every reason to voice there anger at what they see as a sacred image but to riot and call for death and destruction because of it? sometimes I wonder just how far humanity has evolved.

Re: The drawings of Mohammed
This is a good example of extreme culture clash. Many non-Muslims don't understand how sacred Muhammad is to Muslims and how he must never be portrayed as undignified, and some Muslims don't understand our (sometimes pretty sick) sense of humor. I personally see the humor in the caricatures, but I can see why a lot of Muslims would be outraged, and I have to say that, while I do believe in freedom of speech, it wasn't a very good idea to publish those pictures.
This does not in any way condone the death threats. Muslims don't make the laws in Denmark, and they can't expect the Danish to punish them according to the laws of Islam. I highly doubt the newspaper or the writer who commissioned the cartoons realized how offensive those caricatures would be to Muslims. What's more, the only Muslims who have a right to be angry are the peaceful ones who haven't done anything wrong, and they should be angry at the fundamentalists who put those ideas in people's heads by committing the very acts of violence depicted in those caricatures.
I agree that we can't let fundamentalists run our lives and I'm not saying they should have refrained from publishing the caricatures out of fear of what the fundamentalists might do, but rather, they should have refrained out of respect to the peaceful Muslims who have already had their religion dragged through the mud by the fundamentalists who like to blow things up. While I'm not religious (when I did believe, I still wasn't extremely religious) and therefore can't personally understand what it's like to take a religion so seriously, I can logically understand their sensitivity toward anyone or anything that might demean Islam.
Here is a link to Jyllands-Posten's apology, published 30 January 2006. I think it was genuine, and I only wish the fundamentalists could be made to realize that it wasn't meant to degrade anyone.
Since the Qur'an was based on many of the same stories that were put in the Bible, don't they believe that God will make the final judgment? But I guess just like the Christians who like to blow up family planning clinics, every religion has their group of fundamentalists who think it is their job to judge others and execute "sinners" whenever they see fit.

Editor arrested for printing cartoons
06 FEB 06
A JORDANIAN tabloid editor has been arrested after his newspaper published controversial cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed.
An investigation was also launched into a second weekly newspaper that also printed the cartoons.
The Jordanian newspapers came under fire after being the only Arab-based publications to reprint the caricatures, which have sparked protests and anger in the Muslim world.
“Jihad Momani was arrested early Saturday afternoon,” a judicial source said.
Mr Momani, editor of weekly gossip newspaper Shihane, was fired on Friday after the paper printed three of the cartoons a day earlier.
Authorities also pledged to “open an investigation” into the Al-Mehwar tabloid which printed the caricatures in its January 26 edition, the source said, adding that its editor’s arrest “is only a matter of time.”
Al-Mehwar had reprinted the 12 cartoons to accompany an article on widespread denunciation of the images.
In Shihane, the cartoons had appeared along an editorial that read: “Muslims of the world, be reasonable... what brings more prejudice against Islam, these caricatures or pictures of a hostage-taker slashing the throat of his victim in front of the cameras or a suicide bomber who blows himself up during a wedding ceremony in Amman?”
Mr Momani later expressed his “deep regret and guilt for the serious mistake committed involuntarily by Shihane”.
Jordan’s King Abdullah II said on Friday that insulting the Prophet Mohammed was “a crime that cannot be justified under the pretext of freedom of expression.” •
