 Is this forum a good idea?
My husband has been wanting to post in the "It's all an Illusion" forum, but he says he probably couldn't do it without disrupting the civil atmosphere in there, and he doesn't want to hinder my efforts to keep it civil.
So... after he thought about it a while, he asked me for a no-holds-barred type of forum, giving me his reasoning for having one. Envisioning the potential for virtual yelling matches, I have my reservations about this idea, although I am willing to give it a shot as an experiment of sorts.
Conversation vs confrontation: While we don't always agree with each others' methods, we are still working toward the same goal of promoting peace and prosperity for all of humankind, so I am willing to give my husband's idea a shot by opening this "No Illusions Here" forum.
My husband's idea wasn't limited to merely opening a forum for him to give his views in a way that may cause me to tear my hair out. He made a very good case to consider opening other forums here, to be hosted by people with different life experiences, methods, and/or beliefs, as long as the hosts share our same goal of promoting peace and prosperity for all of humankind. If you fit this description, and you have what it takes to host such a forum, contact me and we can discuss it.
Without further adieu, I'll let my husband tell everyone here his concept behind this "No Illusions Here" forum, and why he thinks it's a good idea.

That's fine with me but to this day I still can't figure out why anyone would get so worked up to the point of bursting a blood vessel over anything anyone types on a message board anyway. It's not like actual face to face interaction.
Didn't they have something like this at the old nutforum board?

Hi Rick 
No, the Nutforum was filled with people bickering over a TV show. The issues we discuss here deal with real life, which is more important than any TV show.
I also don't understand how some people can get so worked up over a TV show. But I do understand how people get worked up about issues that effect us in real life, and about the beliefs and rhetoric of some people that perpetuate the serious problems we face.

I doubt I will be posting in this forum much either. I feel that virtual yelling and bickering won't encourage people with opposing views to listen, although I'm willing to give the idea the benefit of the doubt.

Whew! You really made a bigger deal out of this than it needed to be babe, heh. I didn't mean for everything I said the other night to be taken seriously, I was being sarcastic about a lot of it at your expense, due to the fact that you're always so respectful to everyone. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with being respectful to people. I'm just saying that there are people out there who don't deserve respect. So it's not some grandiose idea on my part, as you've implied, heh. I just think we ought to have a place where we can tell it like it is. If someone's being an ass then I think I should have the right to say so.
The fact is that there are people who choose to go around acting like asses, and no amount of congenial conversation is going to change that. What you can do, is call an ass an ass when you see one, and point out why they're an ass. By refuting their asinine arguments, you can inform those who haven't made up their minds yet and help them to make better decisions about their lives. Bottom line is, while I respect your optomistic idea that it's possible to reach everyone, I take the realistic view that it's a waste of time trying.
Hey Rick, it's easy to understand why some people get upset over things that are said online. I was falsly accused of being an online criminal, well actualy, an accomplice to one, at a board I used to post at. I think I was perfectly justified in being upset about that. An insult is an insult, whether online or in "real life". I don't agree with this double standard that you shouldn't take something personally because someone says it to you on a computer instead of saying it to your face.
Hey FX, sure you won't be in here that much, heh. Just about everybody likes this kind of forum, they don't all post in it, but they read it whether they like to admit it or not. Whenever you start a forum like this, there are always hypocrits who have the nerve to post complaints about it, and you can tell by their comments that they were reading the forum right along with everyone else, heh, like the time Le started a forum like this at Whoosh. So you know, getting back to my argument for having this forum, everybody likes a good fight, it's just human nature. Every time a fight breaks out, whether it be online or not, it always draws a crowd. The fight threads are always the most viewed threads on any message board you go to. If you want to reach as many people as you can, then you should be doing it in a forum like this.

Now, now, now. I never said it's possible to reach everyone. I said there's a better chance of reaching more people by trying to understand their points of view and bridging the gap, instead of just giving my side without attempting to see theirs. Sure, some people just act like asses for the sake of doing so, but I don't think you need to call someone an ass in public for people to see it and make up their own minds about the person. Simply pointing out why they are wrong should suffice, lol, but if you want, I can call you an ass from time to time. 
You do make a good point when saying that fighting attracts people. Heck, controversy has helped some celebrities' careers, lol, because controversy gets people talking about them. So there may be more hope for your idea than I initially gave you credit for, and if this forum will help draw more people to this board, then I am all for it.
Would you care to post a few guidelines for this section of the board, or is anything within Runboard's TOS acceptable?
I can't wait to read your first topic.

LMAO! Yep, just like the morbid curiosity that gets people when they see a car accident, people find it hard to resist checking out a good fight, lol. Considering the subject matter, it might be pretty hard to resist posting as well.

It just takes a lot for me to be incesensed , and I prefer to be civil since nothing much is accomplished by 2 ppl screaming at each other.
But that doesnt say I cant get worked , cause I sure can .
My sure subjects to be pissed off is Pedophiles , rapists and religious fanatics.
