URL Icons, aka Favicon, Bookmark Icon, Shortcut Icon
How do you add these little icons to a URL?
And when I mouse over it, it says that I can drag and drop the icon to create a link to the page.
Question - Drag it to where?
Edit to add keywords to subject line

Re: URL Icons
Hi Skokey;
<link rel="SHORTCUT ICON" href="http://adressofyouricon.ico" />
or
<link rel="icon" href="http://adresstoyourpng.png" type="image/png" />
or you can use them both.Add them to custom html part also.
That's all.

Re: URL Icons
Hi Skokey,
You can drag the icon over to your desktop and it will create a link that will always take you to that board.

Re: URL Icons
Well, that's nice, but I've never been in such a hurry to open a web page that I felt it was a major problem to fire up the browser and click the bookmark in my favorites.
I'm at work now and it looks like I.E. doesn't display the custom icons.
What I like about them is that they display in my favorites list and it makes it easy to spot the one you're looking for.
Thanks for the info, guys. I looked at a few and it looks like they are all 16 x 16 pixels or less. Is that a standard size and the maximum allowed?

Re: URL Icons
Yes, they will display at 16x16 no matter what, so you should make it at 16x16 for the best quality. If you recall, Runboard had the smiley as the favicon until recently. Since it's only 15x15, it was distorted in the address bar, with the outline being thicker on the bottom and right of the smiley.
You can also drag the icon to your bookmarks, or to the bookmarks toolbar. I never noticed that before until reading what you said just now, so I played around and those were the two options I found. Thanks to PR, now I know 3.
IE only shows the icon if you bookmark a page. Even then, if you already bookmarked it before, IE won't automatically update the icon if the site changes it, and it usually won't even change if you delete that bookmark and bookmark it again. Favicon handling is yet another reason why FF is superior.

Re: URL Icons
Have you tried Flock? My friend put it on my new Mac and I'm lovin' it. If you have, How does it compare to Firefox?
I just put the tiny icon in my URL. Thanks for the help. This is what it looks like:
My board is called Wolfeboro Off Line but we refer to it as WoffL. I'll have to see how many people notice the little WoffL.

Re: URL Icons
Other than showing someone my ToI banner one time (comparing subtle shadow to the eye-crossing shadows that someone put on their flyers), I only use Flock to make DHL shipping labels, but I can tell you that DHL's website really sucks. The multiple tabs make it easy to start filling another shipment while DHL's printing applet slowly initializes, but Firefox would be just as handy for that.
On a side note, Opera sucks. After you get 3 or 4 tabs open, all the tabs after that are hidden. And if you want to increase the font size, you have to increase the size of the whole page, images and all. I suppose that could be good for getting an idea of how something looks in a larger screen resolution though, since my flat-screen won't go bigger than 1024x768, but "Total Validator" for Firefox will give me screen grabs of just about any combination of OS, browser, and screen resolution, and it tells me exactly how a page looks, not just an idea of how it looks.
Now I'm rambling. I'm going to grab a bite to eat and go to bed.
Good night!

Re: URL Icons
Opera has its uses though, James Long is visually impaired and the only way he can really surf the net now is if he sets the Opera browser at 120% while wearing his glasses! He would go higher but he tells me most web sites break at the 150-180% range...

Re: URL Icons
If it is overloaded like you say, I haven't even bothered to figure out what else it can do, but it works well for the type of browsing that I do.
One thing that is cool is if you lose power, it can restore to where you were when the lights went out.
