IE6 creating errors on website

The bulk of my website uses Wordpress. Recently I changed themes. Everything was working fine, until I messed with it. emoticon

Now I notice that when I use the computer at work (IE6 + NT2000) I get a message saying "iexplore.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program." However, when I use the computer at home (Firefox + Vista) I don't have a problem.

I don't know if this is related, but on the work computer I also notice a "2." floating around the end of the right sidebar, which I can't figure out how to get rid of.

Can you please tell me if the crashing problem is theme related, php related, or is something to do with my very old work computer?

Re: IE6 creating errors on website

Sorry I got sidetracked last night before I could answer.

When I visited just now with IE6, a prompt popped up that said: Press OK to continue loading the content of this page. When I clicked "OK," IE6 crashed.

I then turned off "active scripting" and tried again. The prompt came up again, but when I clicked "OK," the site loaded and the browser didn't crash. I then scrolled down, and saw the "2." in your sidebar, underneath the stats text that ends with "2002." and wonder if it could be duplicating the "2." from that.

Since disabling active scripting kept the browser from crashing, there has to be a problem with one of the javascripts that are inserted onto the page. The scripts you have now are for amazon, site meter, and stats. Did you include any of those recently?

After a quick google of the phrase on the prompt, it looks a more likely culprit could be the flash. If that was newly added, see what happens if you take it out.

All the scripts have been in place for months, if not years. The only change I made was the template.

Using your suggestion, I tried removing each script in turn and then tried loading the page. From that I knew the problem was the Stats. Evenually, I just moved the stats into the footer and the "echo" has disappeared and the page hasn't crashed since (for me, at least). Hopefully, the problem has been fixed!

Thanks for taking the time to have a look for me. Your advise did put me on the right track. emoticon

You're welcome, Scribe. emoticon I just tested it in my IE6 and had no problems as well.

Thanks, Mo. emoticon I did BASIC programming in 6th grade, if that counts as little. It wasn't really the same, though.

My parents bought a TRS80 around 1983. That was when I started brewing beer and I wrote a little Basic Program to tell me how many 12oz bottles I needed for whatever amount of Gallons I decided to make. I certainly didn't need a computer to do that but I learn better when I see a practical use for the subject matter.

I think it was the model 100.
TRS-80 Model 100
We even had a plug-in module for a voice synthesizer. It all seemed pretty cool back then.
