Re: Links and CSS
Hi Mo,
You don't need CSS to make a link open in a new tab, you just need to change the html code to tell the browser to open in a new window/tab like this:
<a href="http://www.runboard.com/bbackgroundforag" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Sports of the World.</a>
which is for a text link or this:
<a href="http://www.runboard.com/boardexchange" target="_blank" rel="nofollow"><img border="0" src="http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/mm272/Vebidia/AG%20changes/siggy.jpg" alt="Anything Goes"/>
</a>
Which is for a graphic link. The key is the part I put in bold text which tells the browser to open the link in another tab

Re: Links and CSS
Perfect. Thank you Rick that is great - you can look at the sports board now - I'm so pleased with how it's turned out.

Re: Links and CSS
nofollow is often used on external links for search engine rankings, but since it's runboard to runboard, it won't make a difference here. I can give you the long explanation for this, if anyone is interested.
target="_blank" is what makes it open in a new tab or window.
I think it would be neat if you could have the grass by itself tiling the whole background, then have a graphic tile across the top, with the banner blending into that. I'll play with it and see what I can come up with.

That would be great Lesa, thank you. I do have a talent with finding backgrounds and getting the colors to match and blend in and I love creating the headers. But the actual background tiling, that still stumps me. I've given up trying to do it with most of the other boards because unless I use a small pattern and make it fit like a big pattern, which I find a bit hard on the eyes, like Women of Substance which Sertab did, it always turns out with pieces of the background showing like in that one. but I did like the way the big soccer ball peeks out at the side so I left that one.
So thank you very much if there is a way that I can keep the big soccer ball where it is but have the rest look like grass.
Rick the bold didn't matter because I could see how it fitted in, that bit that Lesa coded, I just put that before the closing > and it worked perfectly. I also changed the Election Board's links now they work properly as well. It makes my life easier when I surf around for news items if I don't have to look on my overloaded toolbar for links.
Thanks guys your help is so very appreciated.

Re: Links and CSS
OK I have a sidebar on that site now and I think it's going to be useful.
If you look closely there is a little bit of white stuff showing through the sidebar that looks a bit strange, or is it my imagination.
So now, Lesa if you have an idea with the background, that will incorporate the big silver ball and the grass, that will be really perfect. Thank you so very much for the help.
I'm getting so confident now. I took the CSS and HTML in a testboard, made all the changes, checked it was working properly and then switched it, no hassles except a very slow connection today so I was held up for most of the day. All ok now. Hopefully.

Re: Links and CSS
Some things can be difficult to tile, lol. I'll see what I can do with the grass within the next couple of days.
The only thing showing from behind the sidebar is the page background. If you don't want that, you can either add a background color for the sidebar itself, or omit the 1px margin from the box class.
You're doing great, Mo!
