posticon My new tutorial blog

IfYouCodeItTheyWill.com

Hopefully this will help a lot of people who have been struggling to understand HTML and/or CSS, and how they work together.

I've only written the bare basics so far, but have set goals to try and stay ahead of anyone who will be making use of the site.

Questions? Comments? Suggestions?

The site looks fantastic and the domain name is very clever. I thought you said you weren't creative. Great job! emoticon

Thank you, Skokey. emoticon

The design is actually a template that I made a few tweaks on. My main concern is the content and whether its easy enough for the average person to follow without being too boring. emoticon

I'm glad you like the domain name. I wanted it to be memorable. emoticon

 emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I've just started reading it.
I'm working on a website, I already have it available to me but I can't get it to do what I want it to do and when I have it working, I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to do with it (I have a few ideas but they're not appropriate here).
Anyway, I've been working through a book my son, who I regard as a guru about everything under the sun (yes, he's brilliant, I'm his mother you have to believe me) wrote, and with the knowledge I've gained from that and the work I've already done on the design, I am now going to work my way through your tutorials and then try to put the whole thing together without any help.

Thanks Lesa, it's brilliant. Between you and my whizz kid teaching me to become a website designer and Kristina encouraging me to write fiction, I have got a whole lot of new goals to strive for.

woohoo... emoticon

You're welcome, MO, and thank you for the compliments. emoticon

I'm going to start on <div> tags and IDs (as opposed to class names) next, then show how to use them for layout. This should pretty much cover the step-by-step basics, and I can then start moving forward with more detailed techniques that shouldn't need to be followed in such a strict order.

Lol, I'm still following a set order right now, but I thought it would be more helpful this way with the stuff I've been covering.

In addition to writing (hopefully) good content that helps people learn, I've been doing some advertising to draw people to it. What do you all think of my card on bla.st? I had a different one up before that brought 9 people to the site, but it didn't stand out much and wasn't descriptive enough in my opinion, and I'm hoping this one will do better.

I made an effort NOT to read any of the cards to see if it would stand out visually. I went through quickly and didn't spot it, then a little more slowly while still not reading and still passed it by. I then went card by card and reading them before seeing it.

The one that got my attention right away was the one that had the 3D letterpress letters that spelled out BLOG.

How about something with depth and which would tie in with the theme of your page. I can work on some ideas for you if you like.

I would LOVE that, Skokey! I haven't been able to come up with anything that's got an edge, and you are so creative and good with graphics that I'm sure you can come up with something much better than anything I can come up with.

Thank you so much! emoticon

Here's a version of your header with the title as part of the image.
Header Image

I thought it would look better if the text was in line with the tag and didn't run off the tag.
