Thanks, Jinzy! emoticon

I don't get what they're trying to do. They can't pass an amendment in Georgia's constitution to make abortion illegal, without an amendment to the national constitution to allow states to ban it.

Am I missing something? emoticon

I don't know. It caught my eye this morning when I read it. My take is they are trying to over turn the right to an abortion. Now they can put anything up for a vote but I doubt if Georgia's citizens would vote for it if it ever made it to the ballot. Most likely they are trying to stir up controversy to divert attention from this year's budget (oh don't get me started on that!)

Actually, My question would be - exactly which part of the GA Constitution are they amending?

I do not think that abortion is directly addressed in the GA Constitution.......

I could of course be incorrect emoticon I rather often am......... emoticon

I don't think it is Em. I think they are attempting to address it.

I think there is something in the water....

Headline:

Huckabee links gay sex to bestiality, abortion to slavery

What a freak. If you prefer your own gender, you prefer your own gender. Period. And equating abortion with slavery? If anything, abortion would prevent slavery in some areas of this planet. Whatever he's been smoking, I don't want any.

The Bible was not written to be amended.

Translation: "Witches, gays, and people who wear polyester should be stoned to death, and cripples and people with acne are not allowed in the temple!" It's no wonder churches always seem to put the wheelchair ramps so far away from the main entrance. emoticon

Nope, it wasn't written to be amended. Just mistranslated, taken out of context, used as justification for oppression and murder, etc., etc., and that doesn't count the first few centuries that the stories were around, because there was no such thing as a Bible yet. And which Bible are we talking about, anyway? One of the versions that are used in the U.S.? How about the Ethiopian edition, which includes books that "ours" don't? And the Samaritans? Whose Bible is he talking about, exactly?

And to get technical, the stories that were included into this Bible or that Bible are all amendments in themselves, of the pagan stories that inspired them. Jacob and his descendents worshiped different gods. Jacob worshiped El, the God Most High, on his way to Padam Aran and back. His descendents worshiped El's son Yahweh while they were wandering around in the desert. Even the Dead Sea Scrolls speak of different gods for different territories, and I'm talking about the "Biblical" stories themselves.

Oops, I forgot I'm in the political forum and not the religion forum, but guys like Huckabee just can't seem to separate the two. This is the problem I have with Huckabee, though, that he cares more about pushing his own twisted sense of morality on the rest of the country than he cares about our constitution. Heck, I doubt he cares about our constitution at all, because he thinks his beliefs are more important than the principals this country was founded on.

LOL I didn't include that article because of the homosexuality rant. I included it because of this quote, ""The Bible was not written to be amended. The Constitution was," he said, announcing his intention to amend the document if he were to be elected president in November to ban abortion and establish that life begins at the moment of conception.

Leaving it up to individual states to outlaw abortion within their own borders is not enough, he said."

I hope that guy never sets foot in the White House and if he does, I hope no one lets him get away with rewriting the constitution so it reads like his bible. emoticon

Ditto here. But is America really going to let another religious extremist in the White House after Bush?

Constitutional amendments are supposed to improve our laws in light of advancements in our understanding, not send us back to the bronze age.
