Hello, and welcome. I am a grumpy old fart who posts here when I have time. I hale from Tennessee, 30 miles east of Memphis on a ten acre hobby farm with various and sundry animals. I work for the USDA in the program which attempts to contain exotic pests and diseases of agriculutral crops and animals.

Welcome LadyDy.
You've seen me around on the support forums and Anything Goes. I like to hang out with the web techies and pick up new things. My strength is in graphics.
I don't know if your penguin is supposed to have the black ghostly image around it, but if not, here is one without it.

I found Dy's paintings! emoticon Very cool. emoticon I tinkered with painting once many years ago, and made a small one (3x5? 5x7?) with mountains, trees, a lake, and a tiny man in a boat. He was so small, that I actually plucked a hair out of my head to paint his face. Too bad I misplaced that thing more than a decade ago, because I was really proud of it. emoticon

Welcome to Illusia, Angus! emoticon

You try to find pest and and diseases?

Yes, but mainly our agency determines the pest risk of foriegn commodities and then implements regulations regarding the importation of them to prevent or mitigate the risk of economically significant pests getting into our country. My particular job is look for prohibited and regulated commodiities that have slipped through the ports, seize them, destroy or treat them and find out how they got in. Others in my agency place insect detection traps near crops, inspect US goods heading overseas to certify that they meet the entry requirements of the country importing them. Of course we do lots of other things as well. http://www.aphis.usda.gov/

By a Hobby Farm, I mean we dont' make any money from its operations. We have 80 or so chickens, 15 geese and four horses. We do eat chicken eggs and my wife, who is retired on disability takes care of the animals. We also have a few beds for vegetable gardening and some fruit trees. We also have a 1/4 acre pond into which I have introduced hybrid perch, channell catfish, goldfish, crayfish, and into which have migrated many frogs. The frogs attract snakes and I have a relationship with a water moccassin I call "Grendal". I leave him alone and he keeps my frog population within tolerable limits. I have snapped a couple of pictures of him last week. When I get them developed, I will post them somewhere.
