Klingon Language Bible
Anyone who can read that has too much time on their hands. Anyone who takes the time to translate the whole thing into Klingon really has too much time on their hands.

Re: Klingon Language Bible
Can you imagine the time it took to even create that language? First they had to collect all of the words that were used on the show and make sure they got all those meanings straight, then they had to invent words that used the same type of structure so they would make sense in the context of that language.
Roddenberry didn't skimp on details. The makers of Star Trek worked with NASA engineers to keep their technology straight, doctors/biologists to keep their facts straight about biology, etc., so I would bet that they also conferred with linguistic experts to develop the partial languages they used on the show. In true Trek tradition, their most avid fans don't skimp on the details either, so I'm sure they put a lot of research and thought into filling in the gaps of Klingon and other languages used on the show.
It's quite interesting, and I'm sure the people developing these languages and perfecting them are quite intelligent, which is why I find it especially sad that they're not using that intelligence to solve real problems in this world instead of developing languages that only a relative handful of humans are going to understand, and further spending more time translating books into that language, when they could (for example) use their linguistic talents to decipher the original intent behind the ancient texts.

Re: Klingon Language Bible
They do that too, huh? I wonder how long it will be before they come out with their own translation of the bible.

Re: Klingon Language Bible
have you heard of his book titled "The Silmarillion" <----- link
thats almost a bible by itself, very in depth background of his world, from creation onward.
it is kinda dry reading but informative for those into lord of the rings...

In fact it's so detailed that by the time your to the third chapter, your brain is ready to have a meltdown from over use of the memory banks.
Seriously, i picked that thing back up the other day, started reading where i left the bookmark, and had no bloody idea what it was talking about because i had forgotten the details from the previous chapters. And it wasn't even the third chapter...
It's slightly scary when the book meant as a religious text is easier to get than its fiction decendants.

Yeah but you miss the point where they have to give a crap.
Actually it's very psychological i think. They probably have a sense of general disgust with real life and use something fictional to escape it. Therefore making them more willing to put their time and energy into that rather than spend time on something they do not care for.
Granted that wouldn't be everyone. Many i imagine just do this kind of stuff as a side hobby.

Re: Klingon Language Bible
EnzeruAkuma, I think you have a point there. Some people are just so absorbed in their own unhappiness that they're not thinking about ways to improve things for themselves or others and would rather escape reality all together.
And who knows, maybe they've convinced themselves that they'll "save" some Godless Trekkies this way and earn a special reward in Heaven.
Toxic, I had never heard of The Silmarillion until you mentioned it.
