George Carlin, May 12, 1937 – June 22, 2008
He was one of the funniest comedians I've ever had the pleasure of hearing – and seeing, with those facial expressions of his – but he wasn't just a comedian. He said what needed to be said when others were afraid to say it, and he did it in a way that made people want to listen.
He will always be one of my heroes. It saddens me that he won't be around to make me laugh about stuff that happens in the future, but he is immortalized in hours and hours of timeless material. Thank you, George Carlin.
There were a lot of tributes uploaded to YouTube today, but I thought, what more appropriate than his own views on death?

George Carlin In His Own Words
I'll dig up some of my favorites in the next few days, but for now...
Gee, he was just here a minute ago.

awesome and insightful man, he was one of only a handful of comedians that ever really got me to laugh...
i love how he always tried pushing the envelope, and how he found ways to mock our ****ed up society.

Same here. I don't normally go looking for comedians to watch, but I've dug up quite a bit of his videos in the past, and lmao through the few HBO appearances I saw.
And yes, he was great at pointing out the idiocy.

I bought his AM/FM album back in the 70s and memorized the "Hair" poem. I would recite it at boy scout campfires for a laugh.

He was the first stand-up comedian i ever heard. An no matter what phase of life i was going through, i still found him hilarious every time. He really had a natural talent for smoothly combining comedy with style. Something not all comedians can do as well, which set him apart from most comedians i think.

Hair Poem--George Carlin
I'm aware some stare at my hair.
In fact, to be fair,
Some really despair of my hair.
But I don't care,
Cause they're not aware,
Nor are they debonair.
In fact, they're just square.
They see hair down to there,
Say, "Beware" and go off on a tear!
I say, "No fair!"
A head that's bare is really nowhere.
So be like a bear, be fair with your hair!
Show it you care.
Wear it to there.
Or to there.
Or to there, if you dare!
My wife bought some hair at a fair, to use as a spare.
Did I care?
Au contraire!
Spare hair is fair!
In fact, hair can be rare.
Fred Astaire got no hair,
Nor does a chair,
Nor a chocolate eclair,
And where is the hair on a pear?
Nowhere, mon frere!
So now that I've shared this affair of the hair,
I'm going to repair to my lair and use Nair, do you care?
If you recited that as smoothly as he does, Skokey, then you must have had them rolling around that campfire.

Re: George Carlin, May 12, 1937 – June 22, 2008
I was a long haired hippy kid back then and the class clown at school. Yeah, it rolled off my tongue real smooth-like. I never did forget it and can still recite it today.
Some other goofy stuff I'd do at the camp outs was to write and perform skits based on Sesame Street Muppet bits. I had a much younger brother then and there was a lot of Sesame Street at home. I twisted the stories to make them more fun.
