Muscle Ranking 2 and thoughts...
was watching Sasuke 2 (noted another reason why earlier tourneys not normally aired, as they didn't even have the Sasuke name yet, they were still "Muscle Ranking" events, as a one off spin-off of the Muscle Ranking/Banzuke series. It only got the Sasuke name when Muscle Ranking was discontinued in Japan. While doing so, thoughts on stage 1 in that 2nd tournament (which I heard Challenge might finally be getting for you UK folks soon)
Barrel Climb - For the US folks they seen this obstacle in NW 1 - 7 before the steps came in. It's simple a set of 5 logs set up on rollers that you have to go up at a 45 degree angle. Simply put, dont try to climb these as they will roll and down in the water you go. The easiest way through this obstacle is to hop up the incline between each log/barrel.
Spinning Log - Simply put a bridge that spins left/right as you try to walk on it. Most folks found out you slide across made it work fine.
Rapid Descent - The exact opposite of the Barrel Climb, however most folks don't even bother with them, as they jump from the top to the next obstacle.
Hill Climb - think of WoNW's Vertical limit, but without the ropes, and you get the picture of this one.. not hard
Balance Bridge - a simple bridge like all others that come after it, but it just basically plywood looking with a center divider on it as all. Not much time put in it for the network.
Mountain Climb - In this (and NW/MR1) is the only time a rope style climb doesn't happen to finish the stage. Image a rock wall, but with a moving bottom section of grips to get up.
Total time allowed - 60seconds
Even with just 60 seconds many (AND I DO MEAN MANY) folks passed stage 1, and made for a remake on MR/Sasuke/NW 3.
Stage 2 (Note the same course was used on MR/NW 1 thru 4)
Spider Walk - as I like to call version one... this is NOT like the up, across and down version you UK folks are probably used to, as this one is straight forward only, but has a moving platforms on the third section. (later in pre-challenge versions it will become 2 moving sections) Also, this challenge has no water below it, instead rubber mats for those who fail here, with a fireman pole to slide down once complete.
Hammer Dodge - 5 hammers slide back and forth, while this obstacle simply put just wait a few seconds and go on the right time.
Reverse Conveyor Belt - simple speed crawl (low overhead) vs a connveyor belt.
Wall Lift - 3 walls of increasing weight to complete the stage. Note, unlike other stages in NW, you do NOT have to press a button to end the stage, simply stepping on the red pad at the end of the stage ends stage 2.
BTW - 34 folks passed stage 1, with 9 passing stage 2.
Total Time : 50 seconds.

Looking forward to going back to see what it was like. The only thing I'm not looking forward too is if they try and make out it comes after the competitions we've already seen.
Hoping Stuart will say "Today we're going back in time to see the second Ninja Warrior", or something.
Barrel Climb is just like an uphill 'High Rollers', should be good.
Hammer Dodge is a Viking obstacle to me(obviously it was in SASUKE years before, but because I've seen it in Viking first then it's Viking-like).
They had the Reverse conveyer belt already? I'm surprised it lasted so long as it isn't something you need to be 'amazing' to complete.

lol...
Dont hold your breath for a "lets go back in time remark" as they release em so they can air em in order and they fit in that timeline, not in how we originally aired em format.
For example, today they are airing Kun, err WoNW 1-6 back 2 back followed by WoNW 07 tonight. (even though like you in the UK, we got WoNW 4 first.)

Ah, but you don't know Challenge 
They only show things in order of their series' and episodes in the series. They'll always show them in order of Challenge series 1, 2 and eventually 3, so we'll never get the competitions in their original order.

if that is the case, boy will it suck for you as it is definitely noticable that the competition production qualities are lower in the earlier competitions, and that there is no spider walk portion of the final stage in the early Sasuke/NW tournaments, cause until it was won the first time, it was simply climb a rope starting from a seated position to the button at the top of the tower.

I'm sure Stuart's got to mention something. As I've said in various places, in series 1 they showed Kazuhiko winning in pretty much every episode, so I can't see how he'll be able to pretend he's not expecting it. It's going to be weird...

The thing i noticed most about sasuke 2 was that kunoichi competitions are harder than it was back then.
However sasuke 2 does have a one off event in the first stage that has never happened since...
