Its incredible how some of the poorest families look the happiest...
I'm curious though...are the pictures taken with a weeks purchases or all the foodstuffs the people have at that time...?

now do you really think each and every family "just happened" to have a complete, full weeks supply of food? of course those are weeks purchases, ie; the POINT of the article/photos.

 emoticon

lmao. sorry, i'll stop.

as far as the "poorest" family looking the happiest..

most traditional African societies have been subsistence farmers- growing what they need to eat and saving a little extra to trade with neighbors or bring to market.

there's nothing wrong with that, and it doesn't necessarily imply poverty...

but when western capitalist systems are imposed and competitive accumulation of material commodities and technology are necessary for survival it creates poverty.

but the Africans spent the least amount of money and didn't have a single fruit or veggie in the bunch. it was all grains.

although i'd bet a bowl of Count Chocula the family has a few goats/sheep/cow somewhere, they just ain't show them.

^*hands over a bowl of count chocula* It says their favourite food is soup with sheep meat, of course, it just states they like that food not whether they have the sheep for it.emoticon

It seemed like more of the "modern," post-industrial, non-rural, whatever countries had a huge portion of processed, packaged foods in their diets.
