How I got them: Sat in a chair for 5 hours while my mom back combed my hair, wax was used the first 3 months, stopped because this forum told me not to wax because waxing is uncool, and I wanna be cool, clearly

The reason? Well, I always thought dreadlocks looked cool, and I was sick of everyone looking the same; either some slightly curly skater hair, or that Emo black greays hair with that big bang look. So I got dreadlocks instead.

What did I like most? It looked cool, compliments, the headbanging was really somethin' else with dreadlocks, and when I had a beard it went well with it.

As for stories...eh nothing too interesting, lost a thumbtack in my hair once though. I think it fell out eventually

If you need more/less pics lemme know :ninja:

I haven't got any book-whorty pics (only crap-ass first day backcombed-pics,, the rest is natural progress And I don't feel like searching my computer for teh pics), so here's my story:

All my life I've thought that dreadlocks is one of the coolest-looking haircuts man ever made. After falling in love with the musical "Hair" and defining myself as a hippie, I thought that I should show my respect towards peace and nature, and since I've also read a little about the rastafaris, with their wicked cool dreadlocks and their often peaceful Reggaemusic - I decided to actually hey my own locks.

Today, I've been growing locks several times, not being near the "end" at all.

I started out with swallowing commercialistic unnecessary crap like DHHQ and Knottyboy down my throat, but thanks to my parents who still doesn't trust internet shopping, I never bought anything from those companies. Instead, I started my first two sets on my own: the first one with a lice-comb and really ugly sectioning, which fell out the next day anyway due to poor backcombing, and the second one with a pet flea comb, and they looked great, but in my opinion TOO great.

Note that this was like a week into my new hairstyle change, I didn't know there was gonna be months or even years to come.

Out of lazyness I started going natural, or as DHHQ called it, "neglect". I did it out of curiosity; how would my hair look and behave? What would my parents think? What would the society think?

I've got the answers today, approximately one year since I started my dreadlock journey:

- My mother has combed out my natural progress several times. I've told her that even white people can get dreadlocks from not combing their hair, and yet she won't listen and just talks about how I should cut off that long hair and get a decent cut that guys fit in and whatnot. In other words a close-minded bigot. My father don't care that much, he probably wants me to experiment a little during those precious teenage years.

- Society: My friends found eyt another reason to call me a hippie, and most of them started calling me a hobo, but in a friendly way. However, most of the new people I've met has not liked me, calling me a fag/gay, dirty hobo, and other variations of someone dirty and with a bad hygiene. But on the other hand, they were a year younger than me, and in the age where the average kid gets a moped and starts sneaking out to drink on the weekends and such. I'd like to call my hair a bull**** detector, sorting out my friends from the beginning.

- My hair has since the first two backcombings and the first 3-months natural progress (which my mom combed out) behaved like crazy, AND I LOVE IT, it feels great to rebel against the usual boring haircuts of boys my age.

To sum things up, dreadlocks has almost became a part of my life. They've made me spend a year now worrying and pondering about my hair and hair in general, changing the way I wash my hair, changing to organic non-residue shampoo - which has made me change my thinking about products in general, especially in the "healthy", "natural" products made for body and skin - don't trust everything you hear! I've also realized that I can't cope with too conforming people and how fantastic and beautiful nature is.

Dreadlocks has become a part of me, reflecting my opinions about looks and values in my country, where guys get bullied for being sissy and girls starve themselves to death - Screw that! Think different! Stand up for who you are but live in peace with those around you.

I also feel that the universal name should be tangles or something like that - Locks has been worn in several cultures by several people all over the world since the beginning of mankind, and I don't want to be branded as a "rasta" and I certainly donät want to be connected with a religion I choose not to believe in.

Yeah, tangles. That sounds cool.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, If you're using this in a book, please do so since I don't mind sharing my story with the world. I could also throw in a good pic or two
