Sort of important mildew question(again)

So today, I was watching a movie and I had a dread in my peripherals and I spied some white stuff in it. I thought it was like a ball of dust since our house here is dusty and falling apart and ****, so I tried to get it out, and I did, but I noticed a lot, so I got my brother to help me get some of it out with a toothpick, and lots of small hairs started to fall out of the area, and the deeper we looked, the more there was. I wasn't sure it was dust anymore, because other than what it looked like, I rubbed a bit of that stuff in my fingers, and unlike dust, it wasn't "dry" but was sort of "pasty" but not if that makes any sense.

Is there any way to get this gray **** out of my hair because it's in all my fat dreads. Like, if you "get rid" of mildew, does this stuff come out, or does it just stay in there, dead?

I'll upload a pic of it later tonight. Does anyone know what I could do about it?

Looks like that. Full of it on the inside. It's not green, but gray.

My hair used to get full of that **** when I washed with Dr. Bronner's. I just did one of those deep cleanses that are posted somewhere around and rinsed the hell out of my dreads and it was gone. I'll look for it hold on....

There ya go.

I think 3/4 of a cup of baking soda is a bit too much, I only use about 1/3. I did the mixture and kinda just dunked my head in and started wringing it around for as long as I could. Then it was a ***** to rinse out, you kinda have to work each dread one by one. You only have like 7 so it shouldn't take that long :p

Here's the end result.

After

That was like, 5 months between washings though.

Probably mildew, i assume you're locks take a while to dry?

I'd do an acv rinse or the deep cleanse method, should get rid of the stuff.

Good luck either way!

Sort of important mildew question(again)

In my case it was mostly build-up. As I mentioned when I washed with the Dr. Bronner's my hair used to get full of that. After I stopped using it I still had it but in minimal amounts. I guess it all just comes with sweat and dirt that accumulates with time. Also might have had something to do with me working in a kitchen, grease, smoke, all that ****. I never gave it any thought of it being mildew, it didn't have any particular smell or anything. Only time it smelled was when my hair got wet, and it just had a musty hair smell to it that I don't really mind. If it were mildew/mold I'd think it would smell all the time regardless of it being wet or dry.

yeah that's my case. It doesn't smell like mold when it's dry, but it smells real strong when it's wet and when it gets damp.
