You should practice doubles with no rebound! (also with rebound haha) very good for you (: I had a masterclass from Bill Bruford once, and he got someone to hold out a sheet of paper flat. Then he proceeded to fire out lightening quick doubles on it, not tearing the paper and making perfect reboundless doubles each time. Pillows are great for rudiment practice. Make you work harder, just liek you were saying about the pedal thing - I do that too haha
And yes - (good, effective) practice, practice, practice is the key!
