Re: Canadians

I make fun of Canada a lot, but it's all in good fun. I really like it emoticon In fact, I'm almost Canadian myself...the state I'm from borders Canada. And a Michigan accent sounds very similar to a Canadian accent.

Re: Canadians

Canada is gorgeous...quebecand montreal are two of my favorite cities. Banff also tops the list. Luv luv luv Gaspe peninsula and nova scotia.

But for some reason, canadians don't tip much at all when in the states. I was a server for seven years through high school and college and honestly, they were CHEAP with tips. Maybe it's cuz the tip is built into the bill in canada?

Exchange rate? emoticon, i don't know, I certainly wouldn't have a clue how to tip people...it seems very intimidating to tip someone incorrectly emoticon

but back to canada.

i just watched ice age 3, they have weasels in canada right? can you keep them as pets?

I'll eat a chesterfield if you can, or a mountie.

Re: Canadians

ok, let me put it this way. When there was a table of canadians we would draw strws whoever got the short one would have to take the table. They would consistently leave qurters and change. This in a place wherre the average dinner cost 25 dollars...many years ago.

regarding weasels...they are all over north america, and make pretty lousy pets cuz they are really wild. closest and best thing to get wuld be a ferret, which is a smaller member of the same genus.

Re: Canadians

To be fair, i would think that tipping is just small change, that's what tipping is to us, it's kind of like 'keep the shrapnel' that you don't want.

Is there a kind of rule to tipping? I'd be **** scared of getting a bung meal because i short changed the waiter emoticon

Ferrets...they have a funny odour, let pet shop odour, my friend had like, a colony of them, in her house, creepy little things. Do weasels attack people? emoticon

weasels have that same odor it's in their glands and yes they are wild :-)

the thing in the states is that servers are paid less than minimum hourly wage...the remainder is made from tips. Your food wouldn't be bad...but the service might be kind of crappy if you come in, leave 50 cents on the table for a 30 dollar meal, then come in again and have the same server.

Tips are how servers make most of their money here.

um. Thing is, in the rest of the western world outside of the US, waiters get decent wages, so "tip" is like james is saying, small change. it's nothing you live off of.

Re: Canadians

I understand that...and that's why canadians are bad tippers in the states. I didn't say they are vile people...i simply stated a fact...they tip lousy herre considering the pol,icy in this country. Some people actually read about the country they are traveling to and make the appropriate adjustments...others do not...they are thrilled that meals are less expensive here than in montreal for example. the reason is that the restauranter is not paying a living minimum wage. I'm not saying it's right or wrong...just that it's a fact.;
