i haven't found that at all.

in fact, i was at a bar in montreal once, and a friend from the states came to visit me. she accidently started to walk away before tipping, and the bartender said, "you know, it's customary to tip in canada" needless to say, she was rather blunt, and my friend was quite embarrassed.

I always tip while in canada as well. Even while traveling to places where tips are included in the bill I will give extra if the service was exemplary.

And in fact if someone leaves change on the table for a server in the states, it can be considered an insult.

With teenagers and tipping, it's kind of a vicious cycle.

Waiters often assume we won't tip, so they won't make an effort because they figure it won't make a difference, and then because of that why tip well?

But then again, in Canada minimum wage is way higher so you don't need to tip as much.

I think tiping is a stupid concept.. people should get paid what they desearve. meals should cost what their worth. no drama, no problems. emoticon

i think everyone should get a living wage yes, but then hey...i could get really lousy service and the person get paid anyway...is that really what they deserve?
no incentive to be really good at the job. and guess what? the "idea" that tipping shouldm't exists doesn't help those people who are getting sub minimum wage and are living off your kindness...

that's just the way it is.
