I understand that...and that's why canadians are bad tippers in the states. I didn't say they are vile people...i simply stated a fact...they tip lousy herre considering the pol,icy in this country. Some people actually read about the country they are traveling to and make the appropriate adjustments...others do not...they are thrilled that meals are less expensive here than in montreal for example. the reason is that the restauranter is not paying a living minimum wage. I'm not saying it's right or wrong...just that it's a fact.;

tipping

yeah, I agree with you, if you go somewhere, you'll ajust to the cultural norms in that country.

Same goes with asia in a way. southeastasians doesn't normally go swimming in only a pair of string panties, because they are more reserved than that. Normal for ie a lao woman is to wash themselves wearing a sarong, then the tourists come there and go swimming topless in a very tiny bikini panty, which is very rude in the same way as refraining from tipping in a country where the waiting wages are ridiculously low.

Canadians

Actually, servers are paid less than minimum here as well. Tips are expected. Some people are just douches, but in general, Canadians are not.

A friend and myself go into a local place every week after we play squash and order about $8 worth of food each. Normally a server would hate that, but we are known for dropping a $6 or so tip on that. As a result, we get great service, hot food and fast refills; they also have our drink orders memorized. We have had a few of the servers in there tell us that we often make their nights better when we come in.

It is all perspective because I get told that Americans are the worst tippers.
