5/9/09 - Lincoln Park Speedway

Finally, Mother Nature allowed us to race! We went to Lincoln Park Speedway Saturday night. There were several of us parked together. Greg and Vicki Owens, from North Vernon, made the trip up to run with us. Greg Amick was there, along with Richie Lex. Another friend, Tony Newton, came up to run in the bomber class, but was sent home. They said that he wasn't legal to run there. That's is unfortunate, he just wanted some seat time since he is new to circle track racing.

We had a pretty decent night! There were 19 Super Stocks on hand and we were split into 3 heat races. I was on row 2 outside of the first heat race. I managed a solid 3rd place run. I landed in the 7th starting spot for the feature. Unfortunately, as the night went along, the track got rougher and had a lot of ruts in it. It was so rough that I managed to get airborn in turns one and two. I wound up finishing in the 12th spot.

I've got to tell you, I carried the in-car camera for Dirtscoops Saturday night! I am anxiously waiting to see the footage. Another note, my friend Richie Lex ran in the Modified class Saturday night. This was his first night out since he blew his motor at the Ice Breaker back in March. He finished 5th in the Heat race and 11th in the feature. Of course there is always a really stiff field of cars in Modified class, so that's not a bad run. I look forward to watching Richie run more this summer!
