5/22 & 5/23

Racing this weekend got of to a slow start. On Friday, at Bloomington Speedway, I started the heat race inside row 3. I was able to finish in the final transfer spot after being involved in an incident that put Chris Hillman out for the evening. However, I wound up with something bent in the front end, so I opted to start the tale of the feature, since I wasn't sure how the car would handle. The car wasn't too bad, but I did have to pay real close attention going through the corners. The steering was real touchy. I managed a 16th place finish.

Saturday, I got an early start working on the car. I needed to diagnose exactly what the problem was and hope we had the right parts on hand to repair it. Fortunately, it was just the center-link that ws bent and we had one of those in the garage. Things were looking good at this point to go racing at Lincoln Park Speedway.

The track was really muddy when we arrived. At the drivers meeting, they asked that all doored cars help iron the track. Usually, the sprint cars iron the track, but there were only 14 srints on hand Saturday night. It took about an hour to get the track into shape for hot laps. I was slated to start on the inside of row 2 in the first of two heat races. The whole heat race, I was battling back and forth between second and third. I finished second after Slick Griffin #G2 spun out in turn 2 and I inhereited the second spot back.

My brother Greg Amick #6J won the second heat race and drew a '0' for the feature, which would line us up straight up. Greg started outside row #1 and I started inside row #2. Greg shot out to the lead right off the start. Kris Starks #26 fell into second and I was in third. I battled up front with Starks and Amick until 4 laps to go when I lost my brakes. On the restart, I was passed by Doug McCollough #19M and Cullen Goodman #1ST. I finished in the 5th spot.

That was my 3rd top 5 over all! I was very pleased with this run!

In addition to all of my excitement, my daughters, Alyssa and Paige participated in the Little Feet Challenge bicycle race. Paige won the 7-9 year old age group. She brought home the hardware in the family! I told her she was following in her Uncle Greg's footsteps, because he won the very first bicycle race he ever participated in as well and she was about the same age as he was when he won.

Greg finished the feature in the 2nd spot after being passed by Kris Starks coming off of turn 4 for the checkered flag.
