Yay! Everything is secure, here, too. All the outside stuff is in the garage, we've got plenty of food, candles and dogfood. Bring it on!

Re: …
it's raining here...we won't get the real storm until tonight, though. Hubs is hoping the blue tarp the neighbors put over their pile of mulch (they've gone for the season) will blow away...never to be seen again.

did they put a blue tarp on their mulch because YOU put a blue tarp on your mulch?

Actually, they did redo all their mulch because they came down one weekend and saw us spreading new mulch in our yard. The very next day the big truck came and delivered a massive pile of mulch and they got to work. Seriously, these people NEVER do anything to their yard until we do it first. Weird. Unfortunately, they seem to have miscalculated the amount they needed and the leftover mulch has been sitting with a blue tarp covering it all summer. Normally, we could care less what someone does to his/her yard...it's just because it's them. We just had our house painted and we put shutters up. We're now waiting to see if they put shutters up, too. She's been craning her neck to look at our house since the painters were here. It's only a matter of time. I noticed that, before she left for the summer, she planted the same roses as me. She gradually keeps adding more of the flowers that I have. This is because she thinks if she adds them over time, no one will notice she's copying. So, whatever, I can't wait to move. Really. I've been looking. Did I tell you she yelled at Hubs (a couple of months ago) because he was replacing some rotting panels of fence between the houses? She called us inconsiderate for having a fence to begin with and told him we needed psychotherapy for having an unusual desire for privacy.
So...I'm sure the blue tarp was an added touch for our benefit. Not to sound boastful, but we work hard to keep our place looking decent and our house is pretty cute. She knows this and she left it there on purpose so we'd have to look at it all winter...like I said...whatever.
btw...you know what really gets me? She called us inconsiderate for having a fence. Uh...huh...it's not inconsiderate to copy someone else's house AND to keep on copying even after you've been made aware of how much it bothers the people you're copying?
btw again...I worry about telling you guys these stories. I don't want you to think we're petty. We're always so nice and polite (and mature) when dealing with these people. Hubs was even kind and sensible when she was yelling at him. This seemed to make it worse for her...I think she was itching for a confrontation and she didn't get the satisfaction. I just need to vent to you all, sometimes. That's all.

inconsiderate for having a fence and an overblown sense of privacy? WTF? That's just the looniest thing. I mean looney. Crikey.
When do you move?

Re: Hurricane Hanna
Looney is the perfect word for this situation. WE need psychotherapy? Who's the one peeking through the openings in the fence and taking note of any changes made over here? Um...them?
Yeah...we move as soon as we find the perfect house...not perfect as in "the best and biggest house ever" but as in "the house we walk into and know it will be our home". That's what we're looking for. Fortunately for us, there's tons for sale, right now. Houses we never thought would be available are going on the market. I found a great antique right in the village. I really want it but Hubs has his reservations. Whatever...if it's meant to be...Like I said, we're gonna be there for a long time and we don't want to jump into anything. Uh...yeah...we're chicken.

Thanks, Pirate! We WILL find something wonderful, I'm sure of it. It's only a matter of time. Like I said, we don't want to jump into anything. We learned our lesson with this house. We were in such a funk about buying a house...we hurried into a decision and ended up staying here far too long. I like my house...it's just that it's time to go. I feel it in my bones.
and yes...our neighbor IS a whack-job. We're not leaving because of them (thankfully, they're only here for 2mos out of the year) but it will be good to not think of them...ever again.
