Minimates vs. Kubricks

Which one and Why?

As of this writing, I have 3 Kubricks right now (2 MGS and a pink Gloomy Bear) and 8 Minimates (all Marvel themed).

Somehow, I feel Kubricks are cooler. Somehow, maybe b/c they are originating from Japan, and the collectability of some of the figures really appeals to me. The licences too are great too and seem more detailed?

Minimates are a bit smaller, but more poseable.

My wife is really against these, she thinks I will grow to regret buying them (like I do with so many things in the past). But I have my eye on the Aliens Power Loader set at the local comic store... plus it's on sale...

Hmmm, Kubricks look great from the waist on up, better than Minimates.

Minimates on the other hand are quite a bit cheaper.

Minimates are compatible with Lego, but Kubricks are not... on the other hand b/c they are slightly bigger than Minimates, Kubricks are more compatible with Playmobil.

I don't have any minimates but I don't like the cut joints. Also there is something about Japanese miniature figures that American companies just can't capture.

Yeah, I think you hit it on the head Darren. There really does seem to be an intangible 'something' they can't quite capture.

I gotta agree with Darren on this one.

I used to have quite a few Marvel minimates when they were first released but they're just not as good a quality as the Medicom Kubricks IMHO.

The figure just feels and looks better and the minimates do kind of have that Lego man effect, whilst the Kubricks seem like more serious collectibles.

Dont have many Kubricks but the Spider-Man 3 ones are pretty decent and the Star Wars ones always seem to have sold well and been highly collectible.

The minimates completely miss the point of a block figure, IMO. The articulation is hideous and useless, and the aesthetics aren't consistent.

While I don't like the blind box thing with Kubricks, and the absurd aftermarket prices, the Kubs just look classy and elegant on the shelf.

Don't be a completist, just get what you can.

Well put Yakface!

You'll die a horrible death if you try and become a completist with Kubricksemoticon

Just get what you like and what you can. I think I only need a couple more...Spider-Ham, Chestbusted Kane, and maybe the facehugger. At least until they come out with more.

Yeah the blind box thing on Kubricks is a bit annoying when you consider how much they sell for, they're almost the same price as a normal action figure in the UK, so really you should get to know what you're buying before shelling out all that cash.

I guess the surprise and the chase for the rare figures are a big part of what makes them so collectible as well though, so it's a double edged sword.
